@GTMBK Standout is Coming Home

Sept. 2, 2014

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s basketball standout Marvin Lewis is returning to his alma mater as Associate AD for Finance & Administration, announced Tuesday by AD Mike Bobinski.

Lewis returns to The Flats after two years at the University of Maryland as the Terrapins’ Associate AD for Business. While at Maryland, he was responsible for planning, preparing and managing the department’s $70 million operating budget as well as serving as the sport administrator for the men’s lacrosse program.

“I cannot thank Kevin Anderson and Kelly Mehrtens enough for the opportunities afforded to me during my tenure at the University of Maryland, but the chance to work at my alma mater and return to the Atlanta area is special for me and my family,” Lewis said.

“I am honored and grateful to Mike Bobinski for the opportunity to join his leadership team and look forward to serving our student-athletes, coaches, staff and Tech community,” Lewis said. “Georgia Tech has a rich history and tradition and I am extremely thrilled to be back on The Flats!”

Prior to joining the Maryland staff, he spent nearly five years in downtown Atlanta as Senior Associate AD for Finance and Administration at Georgia State, where he was also the sport administrator for nine varsity sports programs.

Before entering college athletics administration, Lewis worked for Frazier & Deeter LLC, a regional public accounting firm in Atlanta, for more than three years.

“We are thrilled to have Marvin Lewis re-join the Georgia Tech Athletics family,” Bobinski said. “He was a model student-athlete and has been very successful in his professional career. Marvin will be a great role model for our student-athletes and a tremendous addition to the leadership of the Athletic Association.”

A native of Germantown, Md., Lewis was a four-year starter and two-year captain for the Yellow Jackets men’s basketball team. As a senior in 2004, he helped lead Georgia Tech to a Final Four appearance. He graduated with honors from Georgia Tech in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in management. After becoming a licensed CPA, Lewis also earned a master’s degree in taxation from Georgia State in 2008.

He and his wife, Anessa, have a son, Callen.
