Happy 12/12/12 Day
This day arrives but once each century
Dec. 12, 2012
THE FLATS -
Yellow Jacket fans, the Georgia Tech Athletic Association wishes you Happy 12/12/12 Day. While 12/12/12 Day is not an official holiday, it does come around only once a century, so please enjoy.
WHY I WEAR NO. 12
Stacey Poole, Jr. (Men's Basketball)
"I used to be 22, but it's retired. I didn't get the chance to call John Salley and ask him, so I'm 12."
Kaitlin Kates (Softball):
"In high school I was 7 and my sister was 5, so when both were taken I put them together."
Wimberly Wilson (Volleyball):
"I was born in December, and 12 is the number of a quarterback. A leader."
Demond Smith (football):
My number was 10 and Synjyn (Days) already had it. 12 was the closest to it."
Frida Fogdemark (women's basketball):
It's been my number since I was little. I've worn it since I was 8.
RECENT TECH FOOTBALL PLAYERS TO WEAR NO. 12
Demond Smith (2011-12)
Anthony Barnes (2006-09)
Mark Logan (2001-04)
Jermaine Crenshaw (1999-00)
Kate Brandt of women's basketball wore No. 12 during her playing career (1981-84). She was the first women's basketball player to be inducted into the Georgia Tech Athletics Hall of Fame. She graduated as Tech's all-time leading scorer with 1,422 points and all-time steals leader with 215.
Notable Men's Basketball Players to Wear No. 12:
Kenny Anderson (1990-91)
Luke Schenscher (2002-05)
Tech scored 12 runs in the 9th inning of a 1998 game at NC State, rallying from a 13-5 deficit to beat the Wolfpack, 17-13. The 12 runs is a school record for a ninth-inning comeback.
Georgia Tech football has scored exactly 12 points in a game nearly two-dozen (23) times in its 120-year history, but there has been just one Yellow Jacket in which both teams scored 12 points. On Nov. 21, 1896, Georgia Tech and Mercer played to a 12-12 tie in a game played at Brisbaine Park.
