Derek Grice was named associate athletic director for facilities, operations & events in September 2015 and serves as a member of the GTAA senior leadership team. He also serves as the sport administrator for swimming & diving, men's tennis and women's track & field.
Grice came to The Flats after spending three years at North Texas as the senior associate A.D. for facilities & event management. While at North Texas, Grice was a member of the athletics' senior staff, served as sport supervisor for the swimming & diving program, was the project manager for all major construction and capital projects, and managed game day operations for all home athletic events.
During his time at North Texas, Grice also coordinated the feasibility study and conceptual design for the newly proposed Mean Green Baseball Stadium.
Prior to his time at North Texas, he spent nine years in San Marcos, Texas, at Texas State, where he started as director of athletic facilities & game operations (2003-06) before becoming assistant A.D. for facilities & game operations (2006-12). He was the sport supervisor for the Bobcats' baseball and softball programs, and was one of the primary members of the committee that developed "The Drive," a comprehensive campaign to elevate Texas State to the Football Bowl Subdivision. He was also the project manager for more than $70 million in capital projects.
A native of Hattiesburg, Miss., Grice earned his bachelor's degree in sports administration from Southern Miss in 2002 and his master's degree in sports administration from USM in 2003. While at Southern Miss, he was a graduate assistant in event management.
Grice and his wife, Shay, have a daughter, Aubrey, and a son, Preston.
