Mark Smith is in his fifth season as an assistant athletic trainer at Georgia Tech, where he works with director of sports medicine Jay Shoop in the day-to-day care of Yellow Jacket football student-athletes.
Smith came to Georgia Tech in 2013 following a short stint as an assistant athletic trainer at Georgia State. Prior to his time at Georgia State, he completed a year-long internship with the Buffalo Bills.
This is Smith’s second tenure at Georgia Tech, as he was a graduate assistant athletic trainer on The Flats from 2010-12. As a G.A., his duties consisted primarily of working with swimming and diving and assisting with football.
His professional experience also includes a summer internship with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2010.
Smith is a NATABOC certified athletic trainer and a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, Southeast Athletic Trainers’ Association, the Georgia Athletic Trainers’ Association and he is licensed by the state of Georgia as an athletic trainer.
A native of Rochester, N.Y., Smith earned his bachelor’s degree in athletic training from The College at Brockport, a State University of New York in 2010.
He is married to the former Ashley Reid. The couple have two sons, Brady and Remy.
