2015 #ACCMSD Day 1 Results

THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are tied for eighth place Wednesday after the first day of the 2015 ACC Men’s Swimming Championship at the GT Aquatic Center. Georgia Tech and Duke are tied with 102 points.

Virginia Tech leads the men’s field with 172 points, followed by North Carolina (170), Notre Dame (144), Virginia (140), and NC State (128). The men’s 1M springboard results have been added to the team scores after one day.

Georgia Tech’s 200 medley relay team of Brian Woodbury, Mark Sarman, Ben Southern and Noah Harasz finished ninth with a time of 1:26.68. NC State won the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:24.07, followed by Duke at 1:25.03 and Louisville at 1:25.06. Each of the top four medley teams posted A-cut qualifying times.

“Our medley relay was faster this year than it was last year (when we took it to NCAAs),” head coach Courtney Shealy Hart said. “We had two freshmen, one sophomore and one senior on that relay. That’s a young relay. We were the only team to put two freshmen out there. I’m excited about the future of that relay.”

In the second relay of the day, Georgia Tech (Andrew Kosic, Harasz, Mats Westergren, Nico van Duijn) finished sixth in the 800 free relay with a B-cut time of 6:25.05. NC State’s 800 relay team recorded an ACC- and championship-record time of 6:13.14.

Kosic’s lead-off time of 1:34.55 set a school record in the 200 freestyle by one one-hundredths of a second. The previous mark of 1:34.56 was set by Noah Copeland in 2009.

“The 800 free relay was awesome,” Shealy Hart said. “Our guys did a good job with a B-cut time. We take that relay to NCAAs. Tonight sets us up for a good week.”
