Jackets Compete at the Bulldog Last Chance Meet on Saturday

ATHENS, Ga. – Georgia Tech swimming had a total of 16 swimmers compete on day one of the Bulldog Last Chance Meet on Saturday in Athens, Ga. Six Jackets registered at least one NCAA ‘B’ qualifying mark on the day.

The last chance meet will continue tomorrow, Sunday, Feb. 26, with prelims set for 10 a.m. and finals slated for 4 p.m. ET.

Women’s Highlights

A total of five female swimmers recorded NCAA ‘B’ qualifying marks on the first day of the Bulldog Last Chance Meet in Kira de Bruyn , Laura Branton, Iris Wang, Chiara Ruiu and Florina Ilie.

De Bruyn recorded an NCAA ‘B’ cut time of 4:16.82 in the 400 IM prelims in the morning session and then beat that mark with a ‘B’ qualifying time of 4:16.39 in the 400 IM finals in which she took first-place overall.

Tech’s Branton turned in a pair of NCAA ‘B’ marks in the 100 fly on Saturday, posting a time of 53.32 in the 100 fly prelims and a mark of 54.02 in the 100 fly finals, while Wang registered an NCAA ‘B’ time of 1:46.62 in the 200 free prelims.

In the 100 breast event, Ruiu registered a time of 1:01.38 in the prelims and a mark of 1:01.76 in the finals, both of which are NCAA ‘B’ cut times, while Ilie recorded two NCAA ‘B’ qualifying times of 1:01.98 in the prelims and 1:02.11 in the finals.

Sophomore Lila Best turned in a new career-best time of 1:51.10 in the 200 free finals, while freshman Lindsay Wallace recorded a new career-best time of 4:57.08 in the 500 free finals.

Fellow freshman Kelli Croft posted three new career best marks on the day with a time 5:04.87 in the 500 free prelims, a mark of 4:32.92 in the 400 IM prelims and then touched the wall in a time of 4:34.08 in the 400 IM finals.

Junior Megan Young turned in a time of 24.37 in the 50 free prelims, a new career best mark.

Men’s Highlights

For the men, freshman Joonas Koski turned in an NCAA ‘B’ qualifying time of 3:53.41 in the 400 IM finals. The mark was a new career best time for the first-year Jacket who bested his previous career-best time of 3:56.43 which he set in the prelims.

Fellow freshman Aidan Pastel recorded a time of 1:40.15 in the 200 free prelims, a new career best mark, while classmate Austin Whalen also turned in a new career best time in the 200 free prelims with a time of 1:39.83. Whalen went on to top that time with by touching the wall at 1:38.97 in the 200 free finals.

Also in the 200 free, Quentin Talley recorded a new career-best time of 1:41.61 in the prelims and then beat that with a time of 1:39.46 in the finals. Talley also turned in a new career-best time of 20.75 in the 50 free finals in the night session.
