THE FLATS — In day one of the 2016 White vs. Gold intrasquad meet, the White team recorded 11 wins over the 17 events, with the two teams tying in the diving “relay” event, to hold a 168.5-139.5 lead on Friday.
The White team earned victories in the men’s 200 yard free relay, the women’s 500 free and the men’s 500 free over the first six events.
White’s first win of the day came in the men’s 200 yard free relay, as Dan Cohen Solal, Noah Harasz, Stefan Kranenburg and Oskar Zimowski turned in a time of 1:23.48.
Emily Ilgenfritz finished first in the women’s 500 yard free with a time of 5:06.54, while fellow teammate Moises Loschi completed the 500 yard free sweep with a first-place finish in the men’s event with his time of 4:35.72.
The next three wins by the White team came by way sweeps in both the 100 yard breast and 100 yard free events. Florina Ilie picked up a win in the women’s 100 yard breast (1:05.64), while Loschi touched the wall first in the men’s 100 yard breast (56.27). Iris Wang took first-place in the women’s 100 yard free (50.94), while Harasz followed with a first-place finish in the men’s 100 yard free (45.98).
Ilgenfritz tallied her second win of the day with a first-place finish in the women’s 200 yard fly with her time of 2:05.90, while Ben Southern touched the wall in a time of 1:50.25 in the men’s 200 yard fly to earn the victory.
The White team closed out the first day of competition with back-to-back wins in the women’s and men’s 400 yard medley relay events. Sara Gilbert, Ilie, Ilgenfritz and Wang posted the win on the women’s side with a time of 3:50.48, while the men’s team of Mark Keaveney, Loschi, Southern and Harasz earned the win with a time of 3:20.40.
The Gold team picked up wins in the women’s 200 yard free relay, women’s 200 yard IM, men’s 200 yard IM, women’s 200 yard back and the men’s 200 yard back events.
The team of Kaitlin Kitchens, Chiara Ruiu, Alex Rieger and Maddie Paschal touched the wall in first-place with a time of 1:36.07 to kick-off the meet in the women’s 200 yard free relay, while Ruiu picked up the win in the women’s 200 yard IM with her time of 2.06.75, almost a whole three seconds ahead of the next finisher.
Alex Kimpel turned in a first-place finish in the 200 yard IM with his time of 1:54.93 to give the team in gold swim caps three wins over the first four events.
However, the lone two wins for the remainder of the day for the Gold team would come from Rieger in the women’s 200 yard back event with her time of 2:04.71 and Rodrigo Quadros Correia‘s first-place finish in the men’s 200 yard back with his time of 1:48.82.
The two teams will return to the pool for the final day of the intrasquad meet tomorrow morning, Saturday, Sept. 24, at 8:30 a.m. at the McAuley Aquatic Center.
