Feb. 23, 2016

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Georgia Tech men’s swimming team will compete in the 2016 ACC Men’s Swimming Championships Feb. 24-27 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. The meet will serve as an opportunity for swimmers to compete for spots in the NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships, which will be held March 23-26 at Georgia Tech’s McAuley Aquatic Center.

Last week, the women’s team set 11 school records in Greensboro. Additionally, junior diver Brad Homza won the men’s platform title with a school-record score of 436.25. Homza was also named Most Valuable Diver by the league coaches.

“We are excited to build on the momentum that our team started last week,” head coach Courtney Shealy Hart said. “Our men’s team has raced very well all year, and we look forward to seeing what the ACC Championships have in store for us. We’re going to come out strong, aggressive and ready to race this week in Greensboro.”

The men’s team currently has eight swimmers with NCAA B cuts going into the ACC Championships. They include senior Youssef Hammoud (50 free, 100 free, 200 free, 100 back), sophomore Noah Harasz (50 free, 100 free), senior Yuval Safra (500 free, 1650 free, 200 back), sophomore Moises Loschi (500 free, 100 breast, 200 breast, 400 IM), sophomore Alex Kimpel (100 breast, 200 breast), senior Ricky Lehner (100 breast), junior Ben Southern (100 fly, 200 fly) and sophomore Brad Oberg (200 fly).

Competition will begin at 4 p.m. ET Wednesday with the 200 medley relay, followed by the 800 free relay at 5 p.m. ET. Fans can follow live results from the meet at http://theacc.co/SDlivestats. Thursday, Friday and Saturday’s finals can be viewed on ESPN3.

For the second time in program history, Georgia Tech and the McAuley Aquatic Center will serve as the host site for the 2016 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships. The Women’s Championships will be held March 16-19, followed by the Men’s Championships March 23-26. Georgia Tech previously hosted the 2006 NCAA Championships and the CRC was also the site of the 1996 Summer Olympics swimming and diving competitions.
