Feb. 27, 2013

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Georgia Tech men’s swimming team opens the 2013 Atlantic Coast Conference Championship Wednesday night in Greensboro, and the Yellow Jackets are set to improve on last season’s sixth-place finish.

The Jackets have spent much of the season on the fringe of the top 25, and have received impressive seasons from sophomore sprinter Andrew Kosic and senior Matthew Vaughan, junior Anton Lagerqvist, and sophomore Nico van Duijn.

Lagerqvist, the defending ACC champion in the 200 breast, heads into this year’s meet with the ACC’s fourth-fastest time of the season of 1:59.94.

The 2013 ACC Championship begins Wednesday night at the Greensboro Aquatic Center with the 200 medley relay and the 800 free relay. The first full day of competition begins Thursday morning at 10 a.m. The finals sessions can be seen on ESPN3 each night beginning at 7 p.m.

Tech enters the championship with 11 points to its credit, thanks to senior diver’s Brandon Makinson’s performance last week in Greensboro.

There is no charge for admission to the 2013 ACC Swimming & Diving Championships. Doors will open at 10 a.m. for the prelims and at 6 p.m. for the finals. Parking is available for $5 on Wednesday and $8 the remaining three days, with a weekly parking pass sold on Wednesday and Thursday for $15.
