THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech swimming & diving team is set for a busy weekend in the pool that kicks off Friday afternoon against Notre Dame and South Carolina at the GT Aquatic Center. Action begins at 4 p.m. and admission is free.
Following Friday’s meet, the Yellow Jackets are back in action Saturday at 11 a.m. to host Pittsburgh and Georgia Southern to cap the weekend.

“These past two meets away were great,” said head coach Courtney Shealy Hart. “Especially the Navy meet, going in there and winning. We’re going to take the same approach this weekend – don’t worry about times, just go in there and race. We’ve got four good teams coming in. South Carolina is solid program from the SEC. Us and Pitt were neck-and-neck at the ACC. Notre Dame always has a great women’s team and Georgia Southern’s women will be a test.”
The Tech men and women are each 1-1 after opening the season two weeks ago with wins over Navy and setbacks at Penn State. All-American senior Andrew Kosic paced the men in the pool, while sophomore Brad Homza is one week removed from an ACC Diver of the Week award.
Kosic won three of the four individual events he swam versus Penn State and Navy and Homza was unbeaten on the springboard.
The women have been boosted by balanced production across the lineup and junior Shannon Lumbra is off to a solid start in the diving well.
“We talk all the time that we can’t just rely on those top scorers,” said Hart. “We’ve got to work on those middle people as well. It’s not just points for first place. We’ve got to work on those second-, third-, fourth- and fifths and maximize our opportunities.”
The South Carolina men and women are each 1-0 after opening the season with wins at Kentucky last weekend. Pitt’s men are 1-0 after beating Duke in early October, while the women were defeated by the Blue Devils. Notre Dame’s women beat Michigan State in their season-opener. Georgia Southern will race for the first time this season on Saturday.
