2016 All-ACC, Second Team
2016 (Junior): Started 16 games on mound as Tech’s ace, posting team-best 9-3 record with 2.48 ERA and 81 strikeouts in 105.1 innings … Was 5-1 in nine starts at home, while posting 4-2 in seven starts mark away from home … Used as two-way player early in season, playing in 17 games with 12 starts primarily as first baseman … Hit .244 with two home runs and eight RBI … Named second-team All-ACC as starting pitcher … Made season debut Feb. 19 vs. Purdue, allowing one run on two hits with eight strikeouts but did not factor into decision … Biggest hit of season came Feb. 24 in 16-inning marathon at Georgia Southern … Hit go-ahead three-run home run to dead center in top of 16th, ultimately leading to Tech’s 6-5 road win … Scattered eight hits with seven strikeouts in season-high 8.0 innings in win over UMBC on Feb. 26 … Recorded two hits with two RBI against both UMBC on Feb. 28 and Georgia State on March 1 … Struck out six batters in 5.0 innings but tagged for four runs on eight hits in no-decision vs. Western Carolina on March 4 … Suffered first loss of season March 11 at Florida State, allowing seven runs (two earned) on nine hits in 5.0 innings … Struck out career-high nine-batters in 7.0 innings vs. Virginia Tech on March 18 … Improved to 3-1 with win at No. 3 North Carolina (March 24), allowing two runs on six hits with five strikeouts in 7.1 innings … Dealt no-decision after solid start against Duke on April 1 … Allowed two runs on seven hits with three strikeouts in 7.0 innings but did not factor in decision after game went to extra innings ... Starts against Duke (April 1) and at Clemson (April 22) hampered by weather – both games forced to resume on Saturday … Fourth victory came in 7.0-inning outing at Pitt on April 8 … Struck out five batters and allowed one run on six hits in 8.0 innings vs. Coastal Carolina (April 29) to record fifth win … Shut down No. 2 Miami in series opener, scattering six hits with four strikeouts in 7.0 innings, leading to 12-1 win … Won final three starts of the season … Allowed one earned run on nine hits with four strikeouts in 7.0 innings vs. Boston College on May 19 … Five days later, struck out five and scattered six hits in 6.2 innings against Eagles on May 24 … Final start as Jacket was 7.0-inning performance in NCAA Gainesville Regional elimination game vs. Bethune-Cookman (June 4), allowing three runs on seven hits with five strikeouts in 7.0 innings.
2015 (Sophomore): Third Team All-ACC selection as starting pitcher ... Two-way standout for Jackets that pitched to team-best 3.26 ERA and went 7-3 in 12 starts on mound, while hitting .273 with three doubles, two triples, homer and 11 RBI ... Made 17 starts at third base, four as designated hitter and two at first base ... Five of seven pitching wins came versus ACC foes ... Made collegiate debut on mound with two-inning relief stint in win over Fordham on Feb. 14 ... Turned in strong relief performance against Albany on Feb. 22 which included then career high 5.1 innings and four strikeouts while allowing just two runs ... Pitched brilliantly in first career start versus Indiana State, taking no-hitter into seventh inning ... Allowed just two base-runners in game versus ISU and earned win as Jackets won 7-1 to complete sweep ... Was masterful again on Sunday versus Notre Dame in rubber-game of series, pitching eight-inning shutout with five hits (all singles), career-high seven strikeouts and no walks ... Extended streak without run allowed to 22.0 innings with dominant start at Duke on March 15, working 7.0 innings with two hits allowed (both singles) and career-high nine strikeouts as Tech won rubber-game 4-0 ... Extended scoreless streak to 23 innings before allowing run in second inning of start versus No. 18 North Carolina on March 21 ... Would be on hook for five runs (four coming on fourth-inning grand slam) but did not factor in decision as Tech scored game’s final six runs and won 6-5 thanks to Thomas Smith’s walk-off single in ninth ... Picked up fourth win at Virginia Tech on April 5 as Tech spotted early lead and bullpen held off late rally by Hokies ... Gave Jackets gem in key rubber-game versus No. 15 Virginia on April 12, tossing seven three-hit innings, allowing just one run with two walks and seven strikeouts ... Pitched career-long nine innings in rubber-game versus Clemson on April 26, allowing eight hits and three runs with one walk and seven strikeouts, but was not involved in decision as Tech won on walk-off single from Ryan Peurifoy in 10th ... Tossed another impressive game versus Presbyterian on May 3, scattering three hits and two runs over seven innings to improve to 6-2 as Tech earned series sweep ... Tech won another series with Gold on mound in rubber-game versus Pitt on May 10, tossing six innings and allowing two unearned runs with five hits ... Offensively, opened 2015 in grand style against St. John’s, going 2-for-3 with three-run home run in first inning -- first career blast ... Notched second career three-hit game and scored game-winning run from first on sacrifice bunt and throwing error in Tech’s 12-inning 7-6 victory over Ohio ... Drew walk in ninth-inning, pinch-hit appearance and scored tying run with two outs in 7-6 extra-inning win against Kennesaw State on March 17 ... Drilled key two-run triple off top of center-field wall as part of Tech’s eight-run rally to defeat Presbyterian 11-9 on May 2.
2014 (True Freshman): Stepped right into starting lineup as rookie and played in 54 games, with all 50 of starts coming at third base ... Was rock solid defensively at hot corner, committing just five errors for impressive fielding percentage of .963 ... Contributed to Tech's school record for team fielding percentage (.974) and NCAA-leading 77 double plays ... Hit .246 on season with 12 doubles and 16 RBI ... Started at third and delivered RBI ground out in first career at bat on opening day ... Had big night at Georgia Southern on Feb. 19, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, RBI, run and triggering double play ... Was 3-for-11 with double, RBI and two runs in UNCG series -- scored winning run in Friday's win and drove in winning run with sac fly in Saturday's win ... Had two hits and drove in run versus Kennesaw State on Feb. 25 that extended hitting streak to five games ... After missing two games with left wrist injury, returned to lineup versus Miami on March 15, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, two runs and matching career-high of two doubles ... Was 2-for-4 at Kennesaw State on March 18 and scored run in Tech's 8-7 win ... His RBI double at Georgia State on March 19 put Jackets up for good in sixth inning ... Had hit in each game of Duke series and scored in each game ... Was 2-for-3 with walk in Tech's 5-1 win on April 5 vs. Duke and scored the eventual winning run ... His single on April 6 broke up Duke's perfect game bid and eventually scored that inning as game's only run in Tech's 1-0 victory that swept series ... Was 2-for-4 and matched career high of two runs in win over Georgia Southern on April 8 ... Had three hits, two doubles, three RBI and scored twice in series win over No. 1 Florida State ... Was on base three times and scored career-high three runs in Tech's 13-6 win in 12 innings at Maryland on April 20 ... Singled to lead off sixth inning and eventually scored Tech's only run in 1-0 win at NC State on April 25 thanks to Matt Gonzalez's RBI single ... Doubled and drew walk in 2-0 win over Georgia at Turner Field on May 13 ... Had four hits (two doubles) in ACC tournament, including go-ahead two-RBI single in eighth inning versus No. 16 Miami that broke 3-3 tie en route to Tech's 6-3 victory ... Had hit in all three games of NCAA Oxford Regional.
Before Tech: Four-year baseball letterwinner at Johns Creek High School under head coach Billy Nicholson ... Served as team captain in senior season ... Helped team to back-to-back region championships in 2012 and 2013 ... Named Louisville Slugger first-team All-American ... Was named Region 4-AAAA Player of the Year ... Was recognized as Braves 400 All-Star ... Lists winning 2013 Connie Mack World Series and being named Tournament MVP as most memorable athletic accomplishment ...
