April 1, 2008

Box Score

ATLANTA – Derek Dietrich and Brad Feltes each drove in three runs, while Tony Plagman and Jason Haniger belted home runs to rally 14th-ranked Georgia Tech past East Tennessee State, 13-6, Tuesday night at Russ Chandler Stadium.

Tech (23-5) fell behind 6-2 in the fifth inning before the Jackets rallied for three runs in the fifth and four in the sixth to take the lead.

Aided by a pair of walks and a catcher’s interference, Tech closed to within 6-5 in the fifth. Haniger cracked his third homer of the season to lead off the sixth, tying the game at 6, and Dietrich broke the tie with a two-run double and scored on Feltes’ single.

The Jackets added four runs in the eighth, two on Patrick Long’s double and another on Luke Murton’s sacrifice fly.

Taylor Wood (2-0) earned the win with one inning of work in relief of starter Deck McGuire, who surrendered a pair of home runs and six runs total over five innings. Chris Hicks, Brad Rulon and Andrew Robinson each pitched a scoreless inning of relief after Wood.

Dustin Plumlee (1-2), who gave up the four runs in the sixth, suffered the loss.

Thomas Nichols doubled with one out in the bottom of the first inning, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on Brad Feltes’ RBI single to give the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead.

A two-run double by Ben Allen and an RBI single from Jacob Fabry helped East Tennessee State take a two-run lead in the top of the second inning, and the Buccaneers added another run in the third to make the score 4-1.

Tech narrowed ETSU’s lead to two runs in the fourth inning when Tony Plagman hit his eighth home run of the season over the right field wall, but solo home runs by Paul Hoilman and Derek Trent gave the Bucs a 6-2 advantage in the top of the fifth.

The Jackets and Bucs will conclude the midweek series Wednesday night at 6 p.m. A live video broadcast of the game can be found on ACC Select (gatech.playonsports.tv) while live stats will be available at Ramblinwreck.com.
