ATLANTA - No. 2 Florida State built an early lead and downed No. 23 Georgia Tech, 8-4, Sunday afternoon at Russ Chandler Stadium. Sam Dove and Jake Davies each had two hits for the Yellow Jackets.

The Seminoles finished off the weekend sweep and improved to 27-5 overall and 14-1 in the ACC, while Tech slipped to 19-14, 6-9.

Tech attempted a late rally, pushing a run across in the seventh inning thanks to Daniel Spingola's RBI fielder's choice, but left two stranded. In the eighth, the Jackets left the bases loaded, after making it 8-4 when Daniel Palka drew a bases loaded walk and Dove scored on an error.

FSU's Stephen McGee finished 4-for-4 with three RBI and Devon Travis had three hits and scored three times.

The visitors seized a 2-0 lead in the third, and broke the game open with a four-run fourth inning that included a two-run double down the left-field line from McGee.

Brandon Thomas drew a walk in the fourth inning and eventually scored after consecutive singles from Dove and Davies, but the Seminoles got an RBI single from James Ramsey and another RBI double from McGee to regain an 8-1 lead in the seventh.

Peter Miller pitched six strong innings for FSU, allowing just four hits and two runs to improve to 5-1, while Cole Pitts was hung the loss for Tech (4-2).

Three Jacket relievers -- Jonathan Roberts, Charles Sheffield, who was making his first college appearance on the mound, and Daniel Palka, kept the `Noles scoreless over the final three innings. Sheffield allowed two hits in the eighth, but struck out the side.
