THE FLATS – No. 17 Georgia Tech baseball will continue its eight-game homestand this week with midweek contests versus Georgia State on Tuesday, Feb. 28, and Kennesaw State on Wednesday, Mar. 1 at Russ Chandler Stadium.

FOLLOW THE ACTION LIVE

• Both midweek games will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra and the WatchESPN App.

• Wiley Ballard will also call the action live over the radio air waves on WREK 91.1 FM. Wednesday night’s contest will go on the air following the conclusion of the women’s basketball first round ACC Tournament game versus Boston College.

THINGS FANS NEED TO KNOW

• $ Tuesdays – $2 Tickets, hot dogs, popcorn and drinks on Tuesday versus Georgia State.

• Super Hero Night – On Wednesday night it will be Super Hero Night at Russ Chandler Stadium. Fans can get a $3 general admission ticket when you come to the game dressed like your favorite Super Hero. NO MASKS!

• Outside food and beverages are not permitted inside Russ Chandler Stadium. Also the season ticketholder clear bags are not permitted during baseball season at Russ Chandler Stadium. All bags will be searched upon entry into the stadium. NO bags larger than 14 by 10 by 5 inches will be permitted.

LEADING OFF

• The Jackets are 1-0 versus schools in the state of Georgia thus far this season with a 10-3 win on the road at Georgia Southern on Feb. 21 in Statesboro, Ga.

• Georgia Tech’s Wednesday starter Ben Schniederjans will be making his first start in over two years. The redshirt-junior last started on Feb. 24, 2015 versus Auburn. He missed the rest of the 2015 season and all of 2016 with an injury.

• Over the first three innings this season, the Jackets have outscored their opponents 40-9 overall in their first seven games of the year. In fact, the Jackets have totaled double digit runs (10 or more) in each of the first three innings on the year – (18-1st, 12-2nd, 10-3rd).

• The Jackets rank fourth nationally with a total of 14 home runs as a team this season. Tech is also fourth in the nation with an average of 2.0 home runs per contest as a team.

• Georgia Tech junior Kel Johnson has hit a team-high five home runs this season over his first seven games. He is averaging 0.7 home runs per contest on the year and is averaging a home run every six at bats this season.

• Tech’s offense has produced a total of 66 runs thus far this season over its first seven games, an average of 9.4 runs per outing. The Jackets have outscored their foes 66-36 thus far this season.

• The Yellow Jackets have won seven straight over the Georgia State Panthers with the last loss coming back on March 7, 2012 at Georgia State.

• In the Jackets’ lone loss of the season on Sunday, Feb. 26, Youngstown State scored a total of eight runs in the top of the second inning. Prior to that inning, the Jackets had not allowed six runs or more in a single game on the year.

• Tech has a total of nine different players that are hitting over .333 on the season – Wade Bailey (.414), Trevor Craport (.407), Joey Bart (.400), Chase Murray (.391), Austin Wilhite (.381), Kel Johnson (.333), Ryan Peurifoy (.333), Coleman Poje (.333) and Kyle McCann (.333).

• With a pair of RBI singles last weekend versus Youngstown State, junior Kel Johnson eclipsed the 100 career RBIs mark in just over two seasons on The Flats. Johnson enters play this week with a total of 101 career RBIs in a Jackets uniform.


FAMILIAR FOES IN GSU & KSU

• Georgia Tech welcomes both Georgia State and Kennesaw State to Russ Chandler Stadium on back-to-back days, Feb. 28 and Mar. 1. Last year, the Yellow Jackets swept both the Panthers and the Owls in a pair of home and home non-conference contests.

JACKETS STING PANTHERS

• Tech is 63-10 all-time versus the Georgia State Panthers and have won seven straight games over their neighbors including a sweep in 2016.

JACKETS BUZZ PAST THE OWLS

• The Yellow Jackets are 19-6 all-time versus their neighbors to the north in Kennesaw State. Tech has won two straight over the Owls, both of which came last season, and have won seven of the last 10 meetings between the two teams on the diamond.

VERSUS THE STATE OF GEORGIA THIS SEASON

• Georgia Tech is 1-0 thus far this season versus teams from the state of Georgia. The Yellow Jackets defeated Georgia Southern 10-3 in Statesboro, Ga. on Feb. 21.

• The Jackets will play a total of 11 games against their fellow Peach State affiliates with three games versus Georgia and two games apiece against Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Kennesaw State and Mercer.

OFF THE SCHNEID

• Georgia Tech redshirt-junior hurler Ben Schniederjans will get the nod on Wednesday versus the Owls of Kennesaw State.

• The start will be the first for the right-handed pitcher in over two years. His last start came back on Feb. 24, 2015 versus Auburn. He missed the majority of 2015 and all of 2016 due to an injury.

SMOOTH TRANSITION

• The Yellow Jackets will look to make a smooth transition from the month of February to the month of March this week.

• Under head coach Danny Hall the Jackets are 167-51 in the month of February.

• Tech is 305-105 all-time in the month of March under Coach Hall’s direction.

ON DECK

• Tech returns to Russ Chandler Stadium to host Belmont in a three-game series on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
