Dusty Isaacs Named ACC Pitcher Of The Week
The junior earned his first career ACC weekly honor
April 1, 2013
THE FLATS - Georgia Tech's Dusty Isaacs turned in the best start of his career Saturday versus Wake Forest and the junior was awarded by being selected the Atlantic Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday. It is the first career weekly award for Isaacs.
Isaacs matched his career high of seven innings, set a career high with eight strikeouts and allowed just one hit to the Demon Deacons in the dominant 8-1 victory that clinched the series for the Yellow Jackets.
His two walks came in the first inning, but rolled a double play to erase one. The only other base runners against him were a two-out single in the third inning and a one-out hit-by-pitch in the fifth. No runner advanced past first in his seven shutout innings. Isaacs retired the final eight batters he faced en route to the victory.
A native of Lebanon, Ohio, Isaacs improved to 4-2 this season and lowered his ERA to 3.83 with Saturday's performance.
Isaacs' award is the league-leading fourth ACC weekly honor for the Jackets this season. Buck Farmer earned Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 18, while Zane Evans has twice been named Player of the Week (March 4 and March 18).
The No. 16 Yellow Jackets (21-6, 8-4) enter a busy week that has them playing back-to-back midweek games at Mercer Tuesday (6 p.m.) and hosting Kennesaw State Wednesday (6 p.m.) before traveling to Duke this weekend for an ACC series.
