LEADING OFF

• For the first time all season, the Yellow Jackets have dropped three straight contests entering Tuesday night’s road game at Georgia. The Jackets are 8-5 this season in games following a loss and are coming off a 9-6 loss on the road at Notre Dame last Sunday afternoon.

• The Georgia Bulldogs are the second SEC team that the Jackets have faced this season. Tech went 1-1 this year against the Auburn Tigers with each team winning on the other team’s home field in the non-conference midweek action.

• Tuesday night’s game is the third straight midweek road contest for the Jackets, as Tech played at Mercer on Mar. 28 and at then No. 7 Auburn on April 4. The Jackets are a perfect 3-0 on the year in midweek non-conference road tilts.

• Georgia Tech’s contest versus the Georgia Bulldogs on Tuesday night is the Jackets’ fourth game against an in-state rival this season. Tech defeated Georgia Southern 10-3 on road back on Feb. 21, beat up on Georgia State for a 12-5 home win on Feb. 28 and then downed Mercer 11-3 in Macon, Ga. on Mar. 28.

• Georgia Tech is a stellar 12-2 overall on the season when holding its opponents to five runs or less for the contest. The lone two losses came in back-to-back 4-3 losses this past weekend at Notre Dame in ACC play.

• Junior Wade Bailey ranks in the top-50 nationally in six different offensive categories – fifth in runs per game (1.30), ninth in doubles per game (0.50), 10th in doubles (15), 13th in runs scored (39), 29th in hits per game (1.57) and 48th in total hits (47).

• Tech digs the long ball, as the Jackets are ranked seventh in the nation in both home runs (46) and in home runs per game (1.53).

• The Jacket pitchers are averaging just under eight (7.9) strikeouts per nine innings this season entering Tuesday night’s game at Georgia.

• Defense has played a key for Tech this season, as the Yellow Jackets are 9-2 on the year when not committing an error for the game. Tech is just 7-12 on the season when making one or more errors for the game.

• Georgia Tech has played a total of 10 night games (after 6 p.m. ET) thus far this season. The Yellow Jackets are 5-5 overall in those 10 contests.

OLD RIVALRY

• The Georgia Tech and Georgia baseball teams have played a total of 367 times, the most-played opponent for the Yellow Jackets in the program’s history.

• UGA leads the all-time series at 204-161-2, however, Tech won the last two meetings between these two teams in a 6-3 10-inning affair at Turner Field on May 17, 2016.

• Tuesday night’s meeting will be the first of three between these two rivals, as the Jackets will host the Bulldogs at Russ Chandler Stadium on April 25 before the two teams play at the new SunTrust Park on May 9.

COACHES’ CONNECTIONS

• Georgia Tech head coach Danny Hall and Georgia’s head coach Scott Stricklin have a number of connections beyond coaching baseball in the state of Georgia.

• Both Coach Hall and Coach Stricklin are former head coaches at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. Coach Hall coached the Golden Flashes from 1988-93, posting a record of 208-117 overall and winning two MAC Championships. Stricklin was the head coach at Kent from 2005-13, where he directed Kent State to its finest season in school history in 2012 as the Golden Flashes posted a record 47 victories including a 21-game winning streak and their first trip to the College World Series.

• Coach Stricklin was on Coach Hall’s staff at Georgia Tech for three seasons from 2002-04 and got his start in coaching in 1998 as a volunteer coach for the Yellow Jackets.

• Coach Hall was Coach Stricklin’s college coach at Kent State from 1991-93 where he was a two-time All-Mid-American Conference catcher under Hall’s tutelage.

LOOK FORWARD TO TUESDAY’S

• Georgia Tech this season has enjoyed success in midweek play and on Tuesday night contests.

• The Yellow Jackets are 5-1 in games played on Tuesday nights this season with wins over Georgia Southern, Georgia State, No. 12 Oklahoma, Mercer and No. 7 Auburn. Their lone loss came to then No. 16 Auburn on Mar. 21 at home in Russ Chandler Stadium.

A TECH RARITY

• For the first time in almost two years the Jackets were held without a home run in a three-game series this past weekend in the ACC cross-divisional three-game series at Notre Dame.

• The last time Tech did not hit a single home run in a three-game series was at Boston College on April 17-19, 2015. Prior to that, the Jackets did not hit a home run in the three-game series on the road at then No. 7 Louisville from Mar. 27-29, 2015.

• Probably not a coincidence, but the Jackets were swept in all three of the series in which they did not hit a home run at all.

LOVE/HATE RELATIONSHIP WITH BIG INNINGS

• This season the Jackets have had a love/hate relationship with big innings.

• Tech’s record is 10-3 overall when it has at least one big inning (four runs or more) in the game.

• On the flip side, the Jackets are just 2-8 overall on the year when giving up a big inning (four runs or more) in the game.

ON DECK

• The Jackets will have a quick turnaround as Tech will host the No. Louisville Cardinals on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 13-15, at Russ Chandler Stadium. Game times are at 6 p.m. ET on both Thursday and Friday, while Saturday’s contest will start at 1 p.m. ET.
