USA Baseball Official Release

DURHAM, N.C. – For the second-straight year, Georgia Tech’s Joey Bart was named to the USA Baseball midseason Golden Spikes Award watch list on Tuesday. The list features 40 of the nation’s top amateur baseball players in the country.

Presented in partnership with the Rod Dedeaux Foundation, the 41st Golden Spikes Award will be presented on June 28 in Los Angeles.

Named to the 2018 Johnny Bench Award watch list on March 6, Bart, who was a semifinalist for the award given to the best catcher in Division I baseball last year, was a consensus preseason all-American this season.

He has continued to produce for the Jackets this season, hitting .347 (43-for-124) with a team-high nine home runs, six doubles, 18 walks, 22 RBIs and 29 runs scored. Behind the plate, he has thrown out 8-of-15 would-be base stealers and has two pickoffs.

In ACC play this season, Bart is hitting a team-high .367 (22-for-60) with five home runs, three doubles and 14 RBIs.

The junior catcher is ranked as the No. 1 catcher in all of Division I baseball by Baseball America and No. 2 overall by D1Baseball.com.

The Golden Spikes Award Advisory Board will maintain a rolling list of players, allowing athletes to play themselves into consideration for the award throughout the season. Fans will have opportunities to nominate their favorite players and be a part of voting for the award’s finalists and winner at GoldenSpikesAward.com.

Past winners of this prestigious award include current Major League Baseball standouts Kris Bryant (’13), Bryce Harper (’10), Stephen Strasburg (’09), Buster Posey (’08) and David Price (’07) and former Major League stars Robin Ventura (’88), Will Clark (’85) and Terry Francona (’80).
