Nissan #ProJackets Baseball Report

April 12, 2017

THE FLATS — The 2017-18 Major League Baseball season is just over a week in and the Georgia Tech #ProJackets have played well with one Yellow Jacket making a smooth transition to a new team and a new league.

New Washington Nationals’ catcher Matt Wieters has shown that he is 100 percent healthy again and is off to a great start for his new team in the nation’s capital. Wieters, who has played in eight games thus far this season, is hitting .435 with a home run, four doubles, five walks, four RBIs and four runs scored. Against Miami on April 5, he went 3-for-3 with a double, a walk and two RBIs. Over the last two games against the St. Louis Cardinals, Wieters has gone 4-for-7 with a home run, a double, a walk, two RBIs and three runs scored.

Charlie Blackmon got off to a slow start on opening day, but has hit safely in each of the Rockies’ last four games versus the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres. Over the first week and a half of play, Blackmon has three multi-hit games, a triple and two home runs.

Derek Dietrich continues to be a utility guy for the Miami Marlins to start the season, as the versatile Dietrich has played in seven games on the season. He had a big game versus the New York Mets on April 7, going 2-for-3 with a triple, a walk, three RBIs and a run scored. On April 9 against the Mets in Citi Field, he went 2-for-3 with a double and run scored.

Right-handed pitcher Blake Wood has appeared in four games on the season out of the Cincinnati Reds’ bullpen. He has thrown a total of 4.1 innings, giving up just one earned run while striking out four on the year.

Below is a complete list of the Baseball #ProJackets in the majors this season.
