Tech Tidbits

Tuesday night’s game is the first of a seven-game home-stand for the Yellow Jackets at Russ Chandler Stadium. Over the next two weeks, Tech will host Georgia on Tuesday night (April 24), Wake Forest for a three-game ACC series on April 27-29, and then welcome Radford for a three-game non-conference series from May 4-6.

This week’s midweek clash between the Jackets and Bulldogs is the second installment of `Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate’ in 2018. The Yellow Jackets were shut out 4-0 by the No. 17 Bulldogs in the two teams’ first meeting back on April 3 in Athens, Ga.

Georgia Tech ranks third in the ACC and ninth nationally on the season with 52 home runs. The Jackets are also third in the ACC in home runs per game (1.27) and in runs scored (277), ranking 11th and 25th in the nation respectively.

In the rivalry series, the Bulldogs have won four-straight over the Jackets entering play on Tuesday night. Tech dropped all three games to Georgia last season and suffered a 4-0 loss to the then-No. 17 ranked Bulldogs back on April 3 at Foley Field in Athens, Ga.

The Yellow Jackets are 5-3 this season versus their in-state foes in Georgia, Mercer, Georgia State and Georgia Southern. GT went 2-0 versus the Georgia Southern Eagles this season (Feb. 20 & March 27) and split the two-game regular season series at 1-1 with both Mercer (March 21 & April 10) and Georgia State (March 7 & April 11). Tech is 0-1 versus Georgia this season.

Georgia Tech has a total of six different Jackets with 20 or more RBIs at the plate this season. Tristin English, who is second in the ACC in RBIs, leads the team with 45 runs driven in, while Kyle McCann has 34. Joey Bart (27), Chase Murray (24), Wade Bailey (23) and Austin Wilhite (20) all have over 20 RBIs as well on the year.

GT is 7-4 this season in midweek contests. The Yellow Jackets’ seven midweek wins have come at Georgia Southern (Feb. 20), versus Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Feb. 27), at Georgia State (March 7), versus No. 6 Auburn (March 20), versus Georgia Southern (March 27), at Mercer (April 10) and most recently versus Kennesaw State (April 18).

Georgia Tech is a perfect 21-0 this season when taking a lead into the ninth inning. However, the Yellow Jackets are also 0-17 when trailing going into the ninth inning of play and only 1-2 when tied after the first eight innings of action.

Head coach Danny Hall has written in a different starting batting order on the lineup card this season a total of 38 times. He has used the same batting order no more than twice this season, both of which have only happened on two occasions.

Tech’s number one most played opponent in the program’s history is the University of Georgia Bulldogs. The two teams first met back in 1898, and will be meeting for the 372nd time on Tuesday night, April 24, at Russ Chandler Stadium. Georgia holds the all-time series lead over the Jackets at 208-161-2.

On Deck

Georgia Tech will remain at home to host the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in a three-game ACC series this weekend. Friday’s game will begin at 7 p.m., while Saturday’s game is slated for a 4 p.m. start time. The series finale is set for Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
