Four Jackets Receive ACC Baseball Postseason Honors

– Georgia Tech had a total of four student-athletes in Wade Bailey, Joey Bart, Trevor Craport and Austin Wilhite earn ACC baseball postseason honors, the league office announced on Monday.

Bailey was named to the All-ACC First Team for the first time in his career at Tech. The junior second baseman leads the team in hitting (.347), hits (78), triples (3), doubles (20) and in runs scored (62) on the season. Bailey, who ranks second in the ACC on the year in runs scored (62) and in doubles (20), hit .295 with five home runs, a triple, eight doubles, 22 RBIs and 24 runs scored in ACC play on the year.

Earning a spot on the second team as a catcher, Bart adds to his accolades for this season. A 2017 Johnny Bench Award Semifinalist, Bart leads the team with 13 home runs and 43 RBIs on the season. In addition to the home runs and RBIs, the Buford, Ga. native is hitting .296 with 55 total hits, 13 doubles and 36 runs. He has also posted a team-best .575 slugging percentage and has thrown out 10 would be base stealers. Despite missing the last nine games of the regular season, including seven ACC games, Bart hit .247 with three home runs, nine doubles, 14 RBIs and 17 runs scored over 23 conference contests.

Landing on the third team at third base was Craport. Craport, who leads the team with 24 multi-hit games on the season, is tied for the team lead in doubles with Bailey. This season, the junior is third on the team with a .336 batting average. He has also posted five home runs, two triples, 20 doubles, 30 RBIs and 40 runs scored. In ACC play, Craport led the Jackets in hitting at .341 with two home runs, a triple, 13 doubles, 12 RBIs and 22 runs scored.


 

 

Named to the All-Freshman Team, Wilhite has had a strong rookie campaign in 2017 after claiming the starting shortstop spot in the first few weeks of the season. This season, Wilhite has hit .340, which is second on the team overall, with 64 hits. He has one home run, one triple, 14 doubles, 24 RBIs and 35 runs scored for the year. In ACC play, Wilhite was second on the team in hitting at .297 over the 30 conference games, including one triple, eight doubles, 10 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

The Jackets will be the No. 10 seed in this week’s ACC Baseball Championship at Louisville Slugger Field in Louisville, Ky. Tech is in Pool C along with No. 3 Wake Forest and No. 6 Miami.

Georgia Tech is slated to play on Tuesday at 11 a.m. ET and on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. ET.
