ACC CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL

#LEADOFF
• Georgia Tech wraps up pool play in the 2014 ACC Baseball Championship on Friday as the ninth-seeded Yellow Jackets battle fifth-seeded Clemson at 3 p.m. on RSN and ESPN3.

• Should Tech beat Clemson, the Jackets would need Miami to beat Duke on Saturday to reach the ACC title game. A loss to Clemson would eliminate the Jackets from title contention.

• Friday’s game versus Clemson marks the first meeting of the year between long-time rivals, who have played 212 times previously dating back to 1902. This was the first season since 1973 that Tech and Clemson did not play in the regular season.

• Clemson leads the all-time series 107-102-3 and 16-10 in the ACC tournament. Georgia Tech beat Clemson 5-1 en route to the 2012 title in Greensboro.

• Tech turned two more double plays in Thursday’s game and now has 70 this season to lead the NCAA. Tech is one shy of tying the school record for DPs in a season (71) in 1985 – the NCAA record is 111 by UCLA in 1982.

• The Yellow Jackets played error-free defensively for the third consecutive game in Greensboro.

Mott Hyde has played error-free at second base in 17-conseuctive games, while Tech’s starting infield of Hyde, Connor Justus, Brandon Gold and Thomas Smith have recorded just seven errors combined over the last 26 games.

• Tech’s six-game postseason winning streak at NewBridge Bank Park was snapped in Thursday’s setback to Duke. Tech was 4-0 there en route to the 2012 title and won its first two games in 2014 – beating Wake Forest in a play-in game and top-seeded Miami in Wednesday’s pool-play opener.

• Both the ACC-leading 36-game reached-base streak by Mott Hyde and the eight-game hitting streak by Ryan Peurifoy ended in Thursday’s game.

• Tech is 28-1 when leading after the seventh inning, 30-0 when leading after the eighth.

• 29 of Tech’s 59 games have been decided by two runs or less (13-16).

• Georgia Tech has won at least one game in 31 consecutive ACC Tournaments, the longest current tournament win streak by an ACC team.
