• Tech had two players — senior C A.J. Murray and senior OF Daniel Spingola — and five high school signees drafted this week. It marks the 15th consecutive year and 34th time in the last 35 years that multiple Jackets were picked in a single draft. The ACC totaled 62 draftees, its fourth-most in league history. • Murray, an All-ACC selection and a 14th-round pick of the Minnesota Twins, is headed to the Twins’ Rookie League team in Elizabethton, Tenn. Read More

• Tech’s five incoming players drafted are the most since six were chosen in 2011. Of the 2015 signees, Carter Hall and Joey Bart have already indicated their intentions to attend Georgia Tech. Hall is the son of head coach Danny Hall. MLB.com article on Hall | Gainesville Times article on Bart

• Spingola, who was originally drafted by the Chicago Cubs last summer but returned for his senior season, was drafted again by the Cubs yesterday. He is awaiting his next assignment.

HYDE PROMOTED: Former infielder Mott Hyde, who was drafted last year by the Astros, was recently promoted to the Class A California League. Hyde was hitting .292 with 16 doubles, a homer, 18 RBI, a .385 on-base percentage and .410 slugging percentage in 50 games with Quad Cities in the Midwest League.

MINOR LEAGUE ALL-STARS: Former OF Kyle Wren and RHP Jacob Esch were each named to the Class AA Southern League’s All-Star Team. The SL All-Star Game is June 23 at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery, Ala. Read More

HOT STARTS IN CAPE: Rising senior Matt Gonzalez heads to the Cape Cod League tomorrow and will join the Harwich Mariniers to put 10 current Yellow Jackets in the Cape this summer. A trio of Jackets got the summer started on a high note on Opening Day Tuesday, as Brandon Gold went 3-for-4 with three RBI and Zac Ryan got the win in relief with 3.2 shutout innings as the Brewster Whitecaps beat Wareham 5-4. Arden Pabst was 3-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI in the Hyannis Harbor Hawks’ 5-3 win over Falmouth in 11 innings.

• TEX FOR MVP?: The New York Yankees have a surprise MVP candidate in Mark Teixeira, writes Mike Lupica of the New York Dailey News.

• WIETERS RED-HOT SINCE RETURN: Orioles’ All-Star catcher Matt Wieters, who had been sidelined since last May, is six for his first 16 at the plate with a double, a triple, a homer and three RBI since returning to action on June 5. Read More
