Georgia Tech #ProJackets Baseball Report

Oct. 4, 2017

THE FLATS -- With the regular season over and the MLB Playoffs starting, Georgia Tech has two #ProJackets in Charlie Blackmon and Matt Wieters still playing with their respective teams with the chance to play in the 2017 MLB World Series.

Blackmon's historical season was highlighted by winning the National League batting title, as he finished the year atop of the NL with a .331 batting average on the season. He also posted career highs in hits (213), home runs (37), triples (14), doubles (35), runs scored (137) and RBIs (104).

By winning the NL batting title, Blackmon became the second #ProJacket to win the offensive award, joining Nomar Garciaparra who won the American League batting title twice - in 1999 and 2000.

Like Blackmon, who will help lead the Colorado Rockies against the Arizona Diamondbacks tonight in the NL Wild Card game, Wieters will look to contribute to the Washington Nationals playoff run which is set to begin versus the Chicago Cubs on Oct. 6.

Wieters played in a 123 games for the Nationals this past season, hitting .225 with 95 total hits, 10 home runs and 20 doubles. He drove in 52 RBIs and scored 43 runs for a Nationals' team that was plagued with injuries up and down the lineup all season long.

Derek Dietrich posted a career-high 101 hits, 13 home runs, 22 doubles, 53 RBIs and 56 runs scored in his fifth season with the Miami Marlins in 2017, while on the mound Blake Wood went a combined 3-4 with a 5.45 ERA and 84 strikeouts over 74.1 innings of work for both the Cincinnati Reds and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Late season call ups, Buck Farmer and Deck McGuire closed out their respective season's on a high note as Farmer earned a win in his last start to finish his MLB season at 5-5 overall with a 6.75 ERA and 49 strikeouts in 10 starts, while McGuire recorded his first MLB win in the regular season finale to finish the last month of the season at 1-1 overall with a 2.63 ERA and 11 strikeouts in six appearances for the Reds.

Below is a complete list of the Baseball #ProJackets playing professionally this season.
