Kinkelaar Named Director of Baseball Operations

Dec. 10, 2004

ATLANTA – Tom Kinkelaar has joined the Georgia Tech baseball program as director of operations, head coach Danny Hall announced.

Kinkelaar is responsible for the overall operations of the baseball office, including team travel, baseball camps and numerous other administrative duties.

“We are very happy to have Tom Kinkelaar join our staff,” said Hall. “To have a guy in the administrative position that has been involved in coaching at the college and high school level for many years will add even more to our program. We were teammates in college at Miami University, and I am glad to have someone with his experience as a part of our staff.”

“I am excited about the opportunity to work at Georgia Tech and with a program that is nationally renowned,” said Kinkelaar. “And the icing on the cake is that I get the opportunity to work with my former teammate in college at Miami.”

Kinkelaar joins the Tech program after a successful four-year stint as a teacher and head varsity boys basketball coach at Wakefield High School in Raleigh, N.C. He led the Wolverines to the North Carolina 4-A state championship in 2004.

Kinkelaar spent 1996-2000 as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Miami (Ohio) University. Working primarily with the pitching staff, Kinkelaar had 12 of his pitchers drafted into professional baseball.

Kinkelaar earned a degree in Education from Miami in 1977 and was a four-year letterwinner as a pitcher for the RedHawks. He was a fourth round draft pick of the New York Mets in the 1973 Major League Baseball draft.

Kinkelaar is married to wife Margaret, and has a daughter Sara, 10.
