MISCELLANEOUS NOTES

• Opening tip: won by Boston College (Jackets have won 11 of 19 opening tips this season)

• First subs for Georgia Tech: Heath, Mitchell for Jorgenson, Cox at 16:00 in the first half

TEAM NOTES

• Tech utilized its fifth lineup of the season Sunday vs. Boston College – Chris Bolden and Travis Jorgenson at the guards, Demarco Cox at center, Marcus Georges-Hunt and Robert Sampson at the forwards. Charles Mitchell did not start for the first time this year. Only Georges-Hunt has started all 19 games for Tech this season.

• Tech trailed 26-24 at halftime, the sixth time this season the Jackets have trailed at the half. Tech is 1-5 when trailing at the half, 12-40 under Brian Gregory.

• Tech’s eight three-point field goals vs. BC established a season high, surpassing the seven the Jackets made each against Georgia and Marquette.

• Tech went 8-for-23 from behind the three-point line one game after it went 0-for-12 at Virginia. The Jackets had been 16-for-38 from that distance in the three games prior to Virginia.

• Tech shot under 40 percent overall from the floor for the third straight game, and has shot 34.4 percent over that span (54-for-157).

• Tech utilized 11 players against Boston College, eight of them scored. Brian Gregory has used at least nine players in every game this season, at least 10 in nine games.

• Tech out-rebounded Boston College, 35-27, and has out-rebounded 16 of its 19 opponents this season. The Jackets have been out-rebounded by Virginia and Wake Forest, and tied Northwestern on the boards. The Jackets entered this game 10th in the nation in rebound margin (now +8.6 per game, +5.0 per game in conference play).

• Tech blocked seven shots against BC, a season-high.

• Tech is 0-7 in the ACC for the first time since the 2001-02 season.

• Virginia defeated Tech by 29 points, but the Yellow Jackets’ other six conference defeats have come by a total of 25 points (4.2 points per game). Tech has lost its first five ACC games by seven, one, seven, three and five points, and suffered a two-point loss to Boston College. The seven-point loss at Notre Dame was a double-overtime defeat.

• Only two Tech losses this season has come by more than seven points. In fact, only two of Tech’s nine wins have come by more than nine points.

• Tech had 10 offensive rebounds but scored only four points off them. The Jackets rank eighth in the nation in offensive rebounds (14.67 per game, in all games and vs. ACC teams).

• Tech’s three primary bigs (Cox, Mitchell, Sampson) scored only eight of Tech’s 62 points (3-of-8 FG), and the Jackets scored 24 points in the paint.

• Tech went 12-for-18 from the free throw line against Boston College and is hitting 71.7 percent in ACC games, 106-for-145 (73.1 pct.) in its last 10 games. The Jackets have attempted just 14.5 free throws per game over that span, compared to 23 per game over its first nine games.

• Tech has yielded 36 threes in 164 attempts (22 pct.) in its wins this season, 67 threes in 170 attempts (39.4 pct.) in its losses. Tech entered the Boston College game 34th nationally and fifth in the ACC in three-point percentage defense.

 

INDIVIDUAL NOTES

Josh Heath hit his second three of the season and first since Nov. 18 vs. Alabama A&M. His seven points were his most since scoring 12 Dec. 3 at Northwestern. Heath also had three assists and just one turnover.

Quinton Stephens had his fifth double-figure game this season, third in the last 5, with four 3s today. His 17 points and four threes were his most since the season opener against Georgia.

• Stephens’ 17 points matched the most by a Tech player off the bench this season. Tadric Jackson scored 17 against Marquette in the Orlando Classic.

Marcus Georges-Hunt led Tech in scoring with 20 points, his 13th double-digit game this season, 53rd of his career and 22nd in an ACC game. It also was his third game of 20 points or more this season, and sixth of his career..

• Robert Sampson grabbed nine rebounds, tying his season high, and the 14th time this season he has taken six or more. He ranks in the ACC’s top 20 in rebound average.
