TEAM NOTES
• Tech utilized the same starting lineup that it began the game with the last two games – Chris Bolden and Travis Jorgenson at the guards, Demarco Cox at center, Marcus Georges-Hunt and Robert Sampson at the forwards.
• Tech utilized 10 players against Miami, seven of them scored. Brian Gregory has used at least nine players in every game this season, at least 10 in nine games.
• Head coach Brian Gregory has utilized seven different lineups this season. Only Georges-Hunt has started all 19 games for Tech this season, and nine different players have started at least one game.
• Virginia defeated Tech by 29 points, but the Yellow Jackets’ other seven conference defeats have come by a total of 26 points (3.7 points per game). Tech has lost its first five ACC games by seven, one, seven, three and five points, and suffered a two-point loss to Boston College. The seven-point loss at Notre Dame was a double-overtime defeat.
• Tech trailed 40-31 at halftime, the seventh time this season the Jackets have trailed at the half. Tech is 1-6 when trailing at the half, 12-41 under Brian Gregory.
• Tech played its second overtime game of the season. The Jackets lost in two overtimes at Notre Dame on Jan. 3. Tech is 61-57 all-time in overtime games.
• Tech led at the 5-minute mark of the second half for the 11th time this season, and have held that lead in nine of those games. Tech is 45-7 under Brian Gregory when leading at the 5-minute mark.
• Tech out-rebounded NC State, 49-31, a margin THE Jackets have surpassed on only two other occasions this season. Tech has out-rebounded 18 of its 21 opponents and seven of its nine ACC opponents this season. The Jackets have been out-rebounded by Virginia and Wake Forest, and tied Northwestern on the boards. The Jackets rank 13th in the nation in rebound margin (now +8.8 per game, +6.2 per game in conference play).
• Tech grabbed a season-high 22 offensive rebounds and scored 21 points off those against the Wolfpack. The Jackets rank 13th nationally with more than 14 offensive rebounds per game. Tech averages 12.7 second-chance points per game, 12.0 in ACC games
• Tech shot 17-for-21 from the free throw line against NC State, improving its conversion rate in ACC games to 74.5 percent and its season norm to 68.5. The Jackets have made 75 percent of its charity tosses over their last 12 games dating back to 12/20 vs. Vanderbilt.
• Tech’s 74.5-percent conversion rate on free throws in ACC game ranks second in the conference behind Virginia (75.5)..
• Tech’s three primary bigs (Cox, Mitchell, Sampson) scored 37 of Tech’s 80 points (15-for-36 FG), and the Jackets scored 38 points in the paint.
• The NC State game marked just the fifth time this season that both Cox and Mitchell scored in double figures. Tech is 3-2 in those games, with the two losses coming to Wake Forest and NC State.
• Cox, a 52.9-percent free throw shooter at Ole Miss, and Mitchell, a 41.7 percent marksman at Maryland, combined to go 6-for-7 at the free throw line against NC State and have combined to hit 30-for-37 (81.1 pct.) in ACC games this season.
• Cox (12 points, 10 rebounds) and Mitchell (18/11) both posted double-doubles against NC State, the first time two Tech players have recorded double-doubles since Daniel Miller and Kammeon Holsey turned the trick against Georgia on 11/15/13.
• Tech has yielded 42 threes in 190 attempts (22.1 pct.) in its wins this season, 77 threes in 192 attempts (40.1 pct.) in its losses. Tech ranked 55th nationally and sixth in the ACC in three-point percentage defense entering the game.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
• Marcus Georges-Hunt went over 1,000 career points with a transition three at the 8:47 mark, becoming the 43rd player in Tech history to pass that milestone.
• Georges-Hunt scored 20+ for the third straight game, the first time he has done that. He has scored 20+ five times since Dec. 30.
• Georges-Hunt scored 22 of his 23 points in the second half, notching his 15th double-digit game this season, 55th of his career and his 24th in an ACC game.
• Georges-Hunt went 8-for-9 from the free throw line, improving his season conversion rate to 77.1 percent in all games, 76.7 percent in ACC games.
• Last three games for Georges-Hunt – 22.3 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 3.3 apg, 37.3 minutes per game, 24-for-40 from the floor, 17-for-22 from the line.
• Georges-Hunt is hitting 47.5 percent of his shots from inside the three-point line this season.
• Travis Jorgenson notched his first double-figure scoring game as a Yellow Jacket, making his first four shots from the floor, including a pair of threes, and finishing 5-for-7 from the floor and 2-for-2 from the line for 14 points. He also had four assists and two turnovers in a career-high 31 minutes.
• Charles Mitchell reached double digits for the first time in three games, his second in the last five games, 11th time this season, 27th of his career.
• Mitchell posted his sixth double-double this season and 11th of his career with 18 points and 11 rebounds. He has reached double digits in rebounds 18 times in his career, six times this season.
• Demarco Cox’s tip in with 51 seconds left put him in double digits for the 10th time this season and for the second straight game. He has four double-digit scoring games in ACC games. Cox had only five double-digit games in 102 games at Ole Miss.
• Cox’s 10 rebounds against NC State were a high for him in a Tech uniform. His career best is 13, ironically against Tech last year.
• Robert Sampson made just his fourth start of the season, and third in a row, scoring seven points (3-for-7 FG) and grabbing eight rebounds. A top-20 rebounder in the ACC (6.3 per game), Sampson took five or more boards for the 18th time this season and for the sixth straight game.
