Head Coach Brian Gregory

I had a chance at about four to walk through the arena on the way to Zelnak where we were set up for the reception for the former players and I thought to myself, ‘wow, what a special night’. You have to realize that you’re in a special place. We just had a story book day today, and it was a hell of a day.

When we came out of that tunnel, and I got out there and I saw it and I saw the students I just thought, ‘woah. The students were just great the whole game. We could really feel the energy throughout the whole building. This facility, this energy and a student section like that are things you need to build a great program, and were going to keep trying to build toward that.

We were in the tunnel with all the former players and coaches and even they were really fired up before the game. I told the guys that you’re not going to be perfect, but when you put that jersey on, you play with the pride it deserves. It’s true, we’re not going to be perfect, but we’re going to continue getting better every day.

With all of the fanfare, we had to make sure our guys played well and they certainly did that. I thought our guys responded really well. We will not have the ability to depend on one guy to get it all done. We know we’ll need to have all 10 guys compete and play well to be successful. For us to be good, we have to do a great job on the glass every game, and I thought we were much better at that today.

We talked to the guys about not hurrying, just go out there and have fun. They did that, and that’s the best way to play great.

We told the freshmen that they’re on the start to a long career, they did a great job and played well.

The post players are getting better every time out. We have a good combination among our posts. We saw a much more physical group of posts than we’ve seen in a while. For future success we need to keep doing the things that will make us better every game.

I think we need to close out the half better and we started the second half with no post presence and we need to do better with that.

These guys have to have the mindset to not worry about who is going to start. It’s going to take all 10 of us to be successful.

Kam [Kammeon Holsey] did a great job tonight. He is definitely the hungriest of all the posts, which is good. I’d take 10 Kams. He is what Georgia Tech needs to be about. He has shown marked improvement each season.

Mfon [Udofia] did a great job in the role we need him to play. He’s the kind of player that you can’t pay attention to the stat sheet. He gives us great flow.”

Tulane Head Coach Ed Conroy

Opening Statement…
“First off I thought Tech opened the very first possession. They hit the offensive boards on us and I thought that really set the tone for the game. They came out with great energy. Coach [Brian] Gregory had them ready to play and I thought they sustained that energy throughout the game. We tried to make a little run at the beginning of the second half, but their energy was excellence and it won out.

On the challenge coming in and opening a new building…
“We wanted this kind of challenge. I have tremendous respect for Coach [Gregory], the Georgia Tech program and Coach[Bobby]  Cremins. I was excited about the opportunity to come here and I wanted that for our program. I’d do it all over again. I know it’s a tough assignment on the road the first game of the year, but I thought our guys handled that part of it well, especially from the turnover aspect of it; we really took care of the ball. We got some great information tonight. We need to do a lot better job on the boards and getting back on defense.

On [Ricky] Tarrant’s injury…
“Just cramps as far as I know. He’s a really competitive young man. I don’t think it was going his way early, but he fought through it for a pretty good game and he left it all out there.

On the biggest difference between Tech last year and this year …
“I think a couple of things. First of all, the ninth or 10th game of the year last year was a different deal. They have more bodies and are stronger. At least tonight, they were a lot more physical and I think that showed in their emphasis on the boards. I thought they really move the ball well side-to-side offensively. They didn’t take really any bad shots.

Junior Forward Josh Davis

On the atmosphere tonight ….
“I think it was a big challenge. First I want to give credit to Georgia Tech. They played an awesome game. When the lights on, everybody has to come together. We need to get back in the gym and practice well.”

On being able to take whoever was guarding him….
“Yes. It’s just instinct. I played them how they played me. It’s what I work on every day in the gym and it rolled over into the game.

On the emphasis going forward….
“Yes, rebounding and defense. We have to get back on defense much quicker. We’ll get back in the gym and make sure we take care of that.”
