MISCELLANEOUS NOTES

• Opening tip: won by Georgia Tech (Jackets are 6-2 on opening tips this season)

• First subs for Georgia Tech: Josh Heath, Robert Sampson for Travis Jorgenson, Charles Mitchell at 16:14 1st half

• On the floor for Georgia Tech at the end:  Bolden, Georges-Hunt, Heath, Jackson, Sampson

• Series Record vs. USC Upstate:  0-1 overall, 0-1 at McCamish Pavilion

• Current series streak:  one straight win for USC Upstate

• Georgia Tech is now 31-22 at home under Brian Gregory, and 24-14 in its third season in McCamish Pavilion.

• Tech is now 41-26 against current members of the Atlantic Sun Conference

TEAM NOTES

• Georgia Tech and USC Upstate were tied at the half, 28-28, the second Tech game to be tied at the half this season.

• Georgia Tech had a 14-0 first-half run to open an 18-7 lead, but the Spartans rallied to tie.

• Georgia Tech is now 5-2 this season in games decided by 10 points or fewer, and is 25-26 in such games under Brian Gregory.

• Georgia Tech out-rebounded USC Upstate 42-30, and has won the boards in six of seven games this season (tied Northwestern). But Tech dropped to 5-2 when out-rebounding the opponent this season and 41-27 when doing so under Brian Gregory.

• USC Upstate scored 12 points off nine offensive rebounds, while Tech scored just eight points off 14 offensive boards.

• Tech dropped to 4-1 this season when scoring less than 70 points, and is 23-43 under Gregory when doing so.

• Tech held an opponent under 70 points for the sixth time this season and is 5-1 in those games. Tech is 41-27 under Brian Gregory when the opponent has scored fewer than 70 points.

• Tech is 42-6 when leading at the 5-minute mark of the second half under Brian Gregory, 6-1 this season. USC Upstate took the lead for good with 4:07 left in the game.

• Tech utilized 10 players against Upstate, and eight of them scored. Brian Gregory has used at least nine players in every game this season, at least 10 in six games.

• Tech went 11-for-20 (55 pct.) from the free throw line against USC Upstate after hitting 72.5 percent (50-for-69) in its last three games.

• Tech is attempting 22.7 free throws per game this season, a high in four seasons under Brian Gregory (three more than the 2013-14 season), and is scoring 14.3 points per game from the charity stripe, also a high under Gregory.

• Tech is 1-2 this season when attempting fewer free throws than its opponent, and 13-40 under Gregory.

• Tech’s outscored Upstate in the paint 30-8, but the Spartans overcame that by hitting 10-of-26 threes and scoring six more points at the free throw line.

• Tech blocked a season-high six shots.

• No Tech player played as many as 30 minutes against Upstate, the fourth time this season that has occurred.

 

INDIVIDUAL NOTES

Chris Bolden led Tech in scoring for the first time this season and was the Yellow Jackets’ only double-figure scorer with 10 points. He also had four assists, four rebounds, two steals and just one turnover in 19 minutes.

• Tech point guards Travis Jorgenson and Josh Heath had just three assists and five turnovers against Upstate.

• Jorgenson made his sixth start of the season at point guard. He moved back into the lineup against Marquette after missing the Alabama A&M game with soreness in his surgically repaired knee and coming off the bench against IPFW.

• Tech’s three primary bigs (Cox, Mitchell, Sampson) combined for 17 points after getting 30 at Northwestern.
