MISCELLANEOUS NOTES

• Opening tip: won by Appalachian State (Jackets are 6-3 on opening tips this season)

• First subs for Georgia Tech: Chris Bolden, Josh Heath, Ben Lammers, Robert Sampson for Demarco Cox, Travis Jorgenson, Charles Mitchell and Quinton Stephens at 15:48 1st half

• On the floor for Georgia Tech at the end:  Doyle, Gueye, Heyward, Peek, Rowland

• Series Record vs. Appalachian State:  5-0 overall, 1-0 at McCamish Pavilion

• Current series streak:  five straight wins for Georgia Tech

• Georgia Tech is now 32-22 at home under Brian Gregory, and 25-14 in its third season in McCamish Pavilion.

• Tech is now 24-4 against current members of the Sun Belt Conference

TEAM NOTES

• Georgia Tech has used the same starting lineup for the last six games – Cox, Georges-Hunt, Jorgenson, Mitchell and Stephens.

• Tech led Appalachian State, 36-25, at the half. Tech is 6-1 this season when leading at the half, 39-17 under Brian Gregory.

• Georgia Tech had an 11-0 first-half run, the seventh time in nine games the Jackets have had a scoring run in double digits.

• Tech utilized 11 players against Appalachian State, and 10 of them scored. Brian Gregory has used at least nine players in every game this season, at least 10 in six games.

• Tonight’s game was the second-widest  margin of victory for Tech or its opponent this season. Season high remains 20 by Tech over Alabama A&M.

• Tech out-rebounded Appalachian State 35-26, and has won the boards in seven of eight games this season (tied Northwestern). Tech improved to 6-2 when out-rebounding the opponent this season and 42-27 when doing so under Brian Gregory.

• Tech reached 70 points for the first time since its 72-70 loss to Marquette and improved to 3-1 this season when doing so (27-10 under Brian Gregory).

• Tech is 44-6 when leading at the 5-minute mark of the second half under Brian Gregory, 8-1 this season.

• Four Tech players reached double digits for just the second time this season; Tech has won both games and is 21-7 when that has occurred under Brian Gregory.

• Tech held an opponent under 70 points for the seventh time this season and is 6-1 in those games. Tech is 42-27 under Brian Gregory when the opponent has scored fewer than 70 points.

• Tech matched its season-low with 11 turnovers and had more assists (14) than turnovers for the fourth time this season (4-0 record).

• Tech is attempting 23.1 free throws per game this season, a high in four seasons under Brian Gregory (three more than the 2013-14 season), and is scoring 14.3 points per game from the charity stripe, also a high under Gregory.

• No Tech player played as many as 30 minutes against Upstate, the fifth time this season that has occurred.

 

INDIVIDUAL NOTES

Marcus Georges-Hunt had all 15 of his points by halftime. He reached double digits for the sixth time this season and for the 46th time in 73 career games at Tech.

Quinton Stephens has had at least one three-point basket in eight of nine games.

Demarco Cox reached double digits with a bucket + FT at the 11:51 mark of 2nd half, his sixth double-digit game at Tech (had 5 in 102 games at Ole Miss)..

Tadric Jackson scored in double figures for the second time this season. He scored a season-high 17 against Marquette.

• Tech point guards Travis Jorgenson and Josh Heath had six assists and two turnovers against Appalachian State, and have combined for 57 assists vs. 23 turnovers this season. Heath has 39 assists and 12 turnovers.

• Jorgenson made his seventh start of the season at point guard. He moved back into the lineup against Marquette after missing the Alabama A&M game with soreness in his surgically repaired knee and coming off the bench against IPFW.

Robert Sampson had his second double-digit effort in three games with 10 points and eight rebounds in just 19 minutes. Tech outscored ASU by 26 when he was on the floor.

• Tech’s three primary bigs (Cox, Mitchell, Sampson) combined for 26 points after getting 17 vs. USC Upstate.
