Coaching for Literacy (CFL) and Georgia Tech men's basketball head coach Josh Pastner continue their partnership in the nationwide Fight for Literacy.

Pastner is a Coaching for Literacy Wall of Fame inductee who helped the program get its start four years ago.

"I am a long-time advocate and supporter of Coaching for Literacy," said Coach Pastner. "Their work is critical nationwide and I'm excited to see the impact it will make here in Atlanta."

According to the National Assessment of Educational Progress, 64% of fourth graders in America are not reading at or above the proficient level. Coaching for Literacy works with sports teams nationwide to generate awareness about the importance of literacy and its impact on social issues such as employment, crime and poverty.

Georgia Tech will host a Coaching for Literacy Awareness Game on Saturday (January 7) when the Yellow Jackets take on the Louisville Cardinals at the McCamish Pavilion. The coaching staff will wear Coaching for Literacy's green apparel to promote the Fight for Literacy. Georgia Tech athletics invite all fans to join the effort by following Coaching for Literacy on Twitter at @coachingforlit and using the hashtag #Jackets4Literacy.

Thanks to the support of sports teams and generous donors, Coaching for Literacy has funded over 50 literacy projects across 20 communities in 11 states. To date, 7,610 children have received direct literacy support because of the program.

"Coach Pastner is a founding member of our effort to Fight for Literacy," said Ryan Viner, executive director of Coaching for Literacy. "We would not be where we are today without his involvement and look forward to making an impact in Atlanta with his help."
