THE FLATS – Georgia Tech goes in search of its first Atlantic Coast Conference win of the season when the Yellow Jackets visit Wake Forest for a 12 noon regionally-televised game Saturday at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Tech, in its fourth season under head coach Brian Gregory, is 9-5, 0-2 in the ACC, after suffering a 46-45 home-court loss to Syracuse Wednesday night. The Yellow Jackets opened ACC play with a double-overtime loss at 14th-ranked Notre Dame.

Wake Forest, 8-8 in its first season under head coach Danny Manning, fell to 0-3 in the ACC after a 73-65 loss to No. 2 Duke at home Wednesday night. The Demon Deacons lost at home to Louisville, 85-76, last Sunday night.

Saturday’s game will be televised regionally on the ACC Network and will be streamed live on ESPN3. The Georgia Tech IMG Radio Network, with flagship station WCNN (680 AM/93.7 FM) will also carry the game. Tech’s radio coverage can be heard in satellite radio nationally (Sirius Ch. 93, XM Ch. 193).

Following Saturday’s game, Tech returns home to face Notre Dame (15-1, 3-0, ranked 13th) at 7 p.m. Wednesday night.

STARTING FIVE FOR SATURDAY’S GAME

• While Georgia Tech is playing four of its first six ACC games on the road, Wake Forest is playing its third consecutive home ACC game Saturday after opening its conference schedule Dec. 6 at NC State.

• Tech fell to No. 45 in the CBS Sports RPI rankings after its loss to Syracuse, which was No. 73 at the time of the game. The Jackets are 5-3 vs. teams currently in the top 100, having defeated Georgia, Rhode Island, Nortwestern, Vanderbilt and Charlotte.

• Tech enters Saturday’s game ranked fourth nationally in rebound margin, sixth in offensive rebounds per game and 28th in three-point percentage defense. Syracuse is ranked No. 34 in scoring defense and No. 24 in field goal percentage defense.

• Tech has beaten Wake Forest each of the last two seasons at the Joel Coliseum and three of its last four games against the Demon Deacons in their home court.

• Tech’s last eight ACC road trips have produced three wins, an overtime loss, a double-overtime loss, a three-point loss, a four-point loss and a 10-point loss. Tech has won six of its last 15 ACC road games after winning only three times in 36 ACC road games before that, dating back to the 2008-09 season.

SERIES NOTES VS. WAKE FOREST

• The Yellow Jackets have won the last four meetings and 10 of the last 13, including a 79-70 victory in Winston-Salem on Feb. 1, 2014 in the teams’ only regular-season meeting.

• The streak has given Tech a 39-37 lead in the all-time series and a 38-35 lead in games played since it became a member of the ACC.

• Tech made a sweep of the season series in 2010-11, setting school records in each game for margin of victory in an ACC game (74-39 at home on Jan. 19) and for margin of victory in an ACC road game (80-54 on Mar. 3). The Jackets also swept the Demon Deacons in 2012-13.

• Tech was 24-9 against Wake Forest in games played at Alexander Memorial Coliseum, winning each of the last seven meetings in the building, and is 26-9 against the Demon Deacons in Atlanta.

• The home team has won 31 of the last 42 regular-season games in the series, with Wake Forest winning four times in Atlanta during that span, and Tech winning seven times in Winston-Salem.

• Tech has lost 11 of the last 16 meetings at the Joel Coliseum, but has one of its better records in an opponent’s building at 8-17, and has won on its last two trips there. Tech is 12-24 against Wake Forest on the road, including a 2-3 mark in regular-season games played in Greensboro and a 2-4 mark in games played in Winston-Salem prior to the opening of Joel Coliseum.

• Tech is 36-26 against Wake Forest since 1985, including 12 straight victories from 1985-91.

• Wake Forest has won all four of its meetings with Georgia Tech in the ACC Tournament, including a 75-74 triumph in the 1996 championship game in Greensboro. Wake Forest took the 2007 first round meeting, winning 114-112 in double-overtime, the highest-scoring game in ACC Tournament history and the highest-scoring game for Tech involving an ACC opponent in its history.
