Tech Offering Seat Upgrades to McCamish Pavilion Patrons

Jan. 11, 2013

THE FLATS – Ticket holders to Georgia Tech men’s basketball games now have the ability to upgrade their seat locations at the game using their smartphones.

The Georgia Tech Athletics Association has partnered with the Atlanta-based company, Experience, which offers a technology that allows fans to download an application to their smartphone, and use it to register for an improved seat location once they are inside McCamish Pavilion. Tech began offering this service Jan. 5 for the Yellow Jackets’ game against Miami. Inside-arena promotion was used to generate usage of the service.

“Based upon the core culture of our school, we’re strategically embracing technology to improve the game day experience for our fans whenever possible.” said Rick Thorpe, associate athletic director for sales and fan experience. “There was strong interest and engagement with Experience by our attendees last weekend, so we look forward to providing expanded service over the remainder of the season.”

Here’s how it works. Prior to a game, fans can register to receive a notification to upgrade by going to gatech.findexp.com (and may also choose to be notified for the rest of the home games). Once at McCamish Pavilion, patrons can upgrade via their smartphones (and a credit card) to seats in three areas in the lower bowl – the corner, courtside, and the Callaway Club.

After payment has been received, new seat assignments are displayed on the patron’s phone, which they can show to the usher in their new section and take their seats.

Fans must have a physical ticket to enter McCamish Pavilion. Upgrades purchases are not valid for admission into the venue.

Tech has eight games, all in the Atlantic Coast Conference, remaining on its home schedule, beginning with Saturday’s 2:30 p.m. game against Virginia Tech. Wake Forest comes to Tech on Feb. 26, while Virginia, Florida State, Clemson, North Carolina and Maryland visit McCamish Pavilion in the month of February, and the Yellow Jackets close out their home slate against 20th-ranked NC State on March 3.
