Georges-Hunt Out for ACC Tournament

March 5, 2015

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech forward Marcus Georges-Hunt will be sidelined for next week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament due to a broken right foot suffered early in the Yellow Jackets’ game Tuesday night against North Carolina.

The 6-5 junior from College Park, Ga., left the game barely three minutes in Tuesday night, and X-rays taken Wednesday revealed a fracture of the fifth metatarsal bone in his right foot. Georges-Hunt will travel with the team to Greensboro and then undergo surgery to repair the fracture on March 16.

“Marcus has had such a tremendous junior year, it is very disappointing to all of us that he won’t be able to complete his great play in Greensboro at the ACC Tournament,” said Tech coach Brian Gregory. “Marcus is such a determined and committed athlete. We know he will make a full recovery and come back stronger and better.”

Georges-Hunt has been Tech’s leading scorer this season, averaging a career-high 13.6 points per game while also averaging 5.5 rebounds per game. In ACC games, he has averaged 14.0 points and 5.7 rebounds. He became the 43rd Georgia Tech player to exceed 1,000 career points this season, currently standing 36th on the Yellow Jackets’ all-time list with 1,127 points.

Tech will play either Wake Forest or Boston College in the opening round of the ACC Tournament next Tuesday at either 1 or 3 p.m.
