Kammeon Holsey Injures Knee, Will Miss Season

Aug. 10, 2009

ATLANTA - Georgia Tech freshman basketball player Kammeon Holsey, who suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee while playing basketball on August 1, will undergo surgery to repair the ligament Tuesday and miss the 2009-10 season.

Holsey, a 6-8, 199-pound forward from Sparta, Ga., sustained the injury during a summer league game involving local college players.

"This is obviously a blow to Kam getting started in his college basketball career, and our team will miss him on the court," said head coach Paul Hewitt. "But I'm confident he will get through this and have a full recovery."

Holsey, ranked as high as No. 63 in the nation among 2009 seniors and part of a recruiting class rated as high as fourth in the nation, was the 2009 class A state player of the year in Georgia, and twice earned all-state honors. He led Hancock Central High School to the class A state championship in 2008. He averaged better than 27 points and 10 rebounds a game as a senior.
