Men's Hoops to Debut on ESPN Big Monday

Aug. 11, 2014

Complete ACC release

THE FLATS – Louisville’s first visit to Georgia Tech as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference will be a part of ESPN’s weekly Big Monday presented by Verizon platform when the Yellow Jackets’ host the ACC’s newest member in a 7 p.m. contest on Feb. 23, 2015 at McCamish Pavilion.

Georgia Tech will face the Cardinals, the 1980, 1986 and 2013 NCAA Champions, for the first time since meeting in a 2005 NCAA Tournament second-round game in Nashville, Tenn. The Cardinals are coming to Atlanta for the first time since 1997 (a 94-86 Tech win in the Georgia Dome) and to the Tech campus for the first time since 1991 (an 82-69 win at Alexander Memorial Coliseum). The Yellow Jackets are 4-2 against the Cardinals all-time on campus, and 7-3 in the city of Atlanta.

Louisville was the opponent for Tech in the first-ever college basketball game played in the Georgia Dome, which featured James Forrest’s half-court buzzer-beating three-point field goal that lifted the Yellow Jackets to an 87-85 win. Tech is 13-15 all-time against the Cardinals, who also will play Tech at McCamish Pavilion in 2015-16.

Eight ACC games will be shown, beginning on Jan. 5 and on consecutive Mondays between Jan. 19 and March 2. Big Monday will take a one-week hiatus as ESPN debuts the inaugural College Football National Championship Game on January 12.

Each Big Monday game involving an ACC team is set for a 7 p.m. start and will be televised nationally by ESPN or ESPN2.

This marks the second consecutive year that ACC basketball games have been featured as part of ESPN’s Big Monday package. Every game on the Big Monday schedule this season will include at least one team ranked in the ESPN.com preseason Top 25 poll, including No. 2 Duke, No. 6 North Carolina, No. 7 defending ACC champion Virginia, No. 8 Louisville and No. 21 Syracuse.

The ACC Big Monday lineup reads as follows:
January 5 – Notre Dame at North Carolina (ESPN or ESPN2), 7 p.m.
January 19 – Pitt at Duke (ESPN), 7 p.m.
January 26 – Syracuse at North Carolina (ESPN), 7 p.m.
February 2 – Virginia at North Carolina (ESPN), 7 p.m.
February 9 – Duke at Florida State (ESPN), 7 p.m.
February 16 – Pitt at Virginia (ESPN), 7 p.m.
February 23 – Louisville at Georgia Tech (ESPN), 7 p.m.

The complete 2014-15 ACC basketball schedule, with dates, starting times and television broadcast information, will be released later this month.
