#ProJackets Men's Basketball Update

Oct. 16, 2015

THE FLATS – The NBA pre-season has reached the midway point with five Georgia Tech basketball alumni suiting up across the Association. Leading man, Chris Bosh, has put up impressive numbers through his first three games. Meanwhile a trio of former Yellow Jackets have also firmly established themselves as frontline starters.

Chris Bosh – Following a lengthy recovery this offseason from a potentially fatal blood clot scare, things may finally be turning around for Chris Bosh. Not only has Miami’s power forward averaged over double figures in his first three preseason games, Bosh and his wife Adrienne are expecting twins this coming Spring. ESPN recently profiled Bosh’s road to recovery here.

Derrick Favors – Despite battling a sore groin, Favors has fared well in the preseason’s early-going. The six-year veteran has posted a pair of double-figure efforts in three games. When discussing his goals for the season, Favors says he aims to “stretch opposing power forwards” on both ends of the court in 2015-16.

Jarrett Jack – Pegged as the Brooklyn Nets’ starting point guard, Jarrett Jack has answered the bell. The D.C. native scored 20 points including a perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line against Philadelphia. Although Jack has been a journeyman and played for seven different teams, he as a result has become one of the NBA’s most popular players among his peers. Read more here.

Anthony Morrow – Under the new leadership of head coach Billy Donovan, the Oklahoma City Thunder and Anthony Morrow figure to be in the thick of a heated Western Conference race. Since Donovan’s arrival, Morrow has been highlighted as one of the key beneficiaries of Donovan’s spacious offense. So far, Morrow has averaged nearly 10 points per game and shot 40 percent from distance.

Iman Shumpert – Only days before the Cavaliers first preseason game, Iman Shumpert learned that he would miss 12 to 14 weeks with a wrist injury. Shumpert is targeting a return in January, but until then he has taken the time to detail his thoughts in a personal journal entry he posted online. Read it here.

Thaddeus Young – Young joins Jarrett Jack in Brooklyn this year and through his first three games has averaged 9.7 ppg, 6.7 rpg and 2.0 steals per game. Young was recently profiled by ESPN after buying a condo in Brooklyn and persevering through tragic adversity. Check out his story here.
