A steady, consistent special teams performer who had an unusual path to becoming Georgia Tech's primary placekicker in 2012... came to Tech as a walk-on in 2008... in Tech's Orange Bowl season of 2009 he took over kicking duties for a three-game stretch... saw action in just one game between 2010 and 2011... emerged as Tech's starting kicker mid-way through the 2012 season... a Dean's List student who also served on the Georgia Tech Student-Athlete Advisory Board.

2012 (senior): Took over the primary kicking duties mid-way through the season... played the final six games... finished the year a perfect 18-of-18 on PATs and made 5-of-6 field goal attempts... saw his first action of the season Oct. 27 vs. BYU when he came off the bench to kick-off one time... scored 14 points in the 68-50 win at North Carolina with two field goals and eight PATs... made all six PAT attempts against Duke (Nov. 17)... kicked a 38-yard field goal at Georgia (Nov. 24)... booted a pair of field goals in the ACC Championship game vs. Florida State.

2011 (junior): Played in one game, seeing brief action in the season opener against Western Carolina.

2010 (sophomore): Did not see game action.

2009 (redshirt freshman): The top back-up at placekicker... played in three games... took over place-kicking duties late in the North Carolina game (Sept. 24) and attempted every PAT in the next two games... was a perfect 14-of-14 on PATs... did not attempt a field goal... made his only PAT at North Carolina (Sept. 24)... was 6-of-6 on PATs at Mississippi State (Oct. 3)... kicked a career-high seven PATs at Florida State (Oct. 10).

2008 (true freshman): Redshirted.... joined the team after classes began in August.

High School: Norcross HS... earned two varsity letters in football... played for coach Keith Maloof... helped lead Norcross to regional championships in 2006 and 2007... named to the 2007 Gwinnett County all-star team... broke three school records that had stood since 1956 --- field goals made in a season (12 in 2006), PATs in a season (42 in 2006), field goals in one game (3 in 2007 vs. Northview)... kicked a 47-yard field goal with 20 seconds left to put the game into triple-overtime in 2006... served as executive vice-president of the student council... a member of the honor roll.

Personal: Full name is James Christopher Tanner... parents are Richard and Kathy Tanner... Richard graduated from Georgia Tech in 1979... born in Tampa, Fla., on Jan. 23, 1990... made the ACC academic honor roll in 2011-12... majoring in economics and international affairs... post-school ambition is to be an economist... chose Tech because of the opportunity to kick for the Yellow Jackets; the academics and business program; and because his father attended Tech.
