Tech wraps up 2012 Training Camp with scrimmage at Bobby Dodd Stadium
A fifth-year senior kicker with a strong leg... has handled kickoffs each of the last two seasons... had 21 touchbacks in 2012, compared to seven touchbacks in 2011... competing with Justin Moore to handle all placekicking duties... joined the program as a walk-on in August, 2009... was awarded a scholarship for 2012-13 by Paul Johnson.
2012 (junior): Played in 12 games... converted 37-of-39 PATs and made 4-of-8 field goal attempts... two of his kicks were blocked... kicked off 67 times for an average of 61.6... 21 of his kickoffs were touchbacks... recorded two solo tackles on kick coverage... kicked a 34-yard field goal and was 2-of-2 on PATs in the season opener at Virginia Tech (Sept. 3)... scored 11 points and booted five kickoffs into the end zone for touchbacks vs. Presbyterian (Sept. 8)... booted a field goal and all four PAT attempts at Clemson (Oct. 6)... kicked a career-long 47-yard field goal against Florida State in the ACC Championship Game (Dec. 1).
2011 (sophomore): Played in 11 games... handled the majority of Tech's kickoff duties (43 of 80 team kickoffs)... averaged 64.3 yards per attempt... seven of his kickoffs went for touchbacks and he had no kicks that went out of bounds... his only field goal attempt came with seconds remaining in regulation against Utah in the Hyundai Sun Bowl... his 48-yard attempt, which would have won the game, barely missed to the right... recorded four special teams tackles... had solo tackles vs. Western Carolina (Sept. 1) and Kansas (Sept. 17)... his tackle against the Jayhawks actually forced a fumble.
2010 (redshirt freshman): Saw special teams action in two games -- vs. South Carolina State and Middle Tennessee State.
2009 (true freshman): Redshirted.
High School: Dawson County High School... earned three varsity letters in football under coach Jeff Lee... also played four years of soccer, serving two years as team captain... served as class president as a senior.
Personal: Full name is David Clarke Scully... parents are Michael and Melinda... has two siblings -- Shane and Brigid... born Nov. 8, 1990 in Newark, Del... previously lived in New Castle, Del., and Dallas, Texas... made the Dean's List in the fall of 2012... majoring in biochemistry... enjoys kayaking.
