An athletic defender who will likely be in the mix at safety again this fall... spent most of last season listed second on the depth chart behind Isaiah Johnson... began his career at Tech as a quarterback before moving to defensive back in late August, 2011.
2012 (redshirt freshman): Played in all 14 games as a back-up at safety, and on special teams... recorded 12 tackles, 11 of which were solo tackles... recorded two solo tackles in the win at Maryland (Nov. 3)... had a career-high three tackles at North Carolina (Nov. 10).
2011 (true freshman): Redshirted.
High School: Monroe Area HS... coached by Matt Fligg... played quarterback for the Purple Hurricanes... led team to an 11-2 record and a state playoff appearance... ran the option... rushed for a school record 1,795 yards and 25 touchdowns as a senior... had 13 rushing attempts of at least 50 yards... passed for 431 yards and five touchdowns... named all-state and was team MVP as a senior... two-time all-region selection... was on the academic honor roll all four years.
Personal: Full name is Demontevious Delirrhea Smith but goes by Demond (duh-MOND)... parents are Garry Smith and Shadonne Wright... has a younger brother, Degarrlow... born Nov. 14, 1993 in Rockdale, Ga... enjoys video games and basketball... began playing football at age 13... majoring in business administration.
