J.R. Dorman, a former assistant coach at Wittenberg University, begins his fourth year at Georgia Tech as a football staff assistant.

Dorman will focus this season on special teams. Previously, he has worked with the Yellow Jacket secondary and linebackers.

At Wittenberg, Dorman coached wide receivers for two years, helping the Red and White to records of 7-4 in 2006 (won conference title) and 8-2 in 2007. Dorman spent the 2005 season as an assistant at Denison, working primarily with the linebackers.

A graduate of the University of South Carolina, Dorman got his professional start with the National Football League's Houston Texans in 2004, serving as an intern on the staff of Dom Capers. With the Texans, Dorman worked primarily in the scouting department, in addition to some duties with the defense.

Prior to his stint with the Texans he spent five years under Lou Holtz at South Carolina as a student assistant, gaining experience in a wide range of areas, including defensive backs, special teams and recruiting.

Dorman majored in sports administration at South Carolina.
