POSTGAME NOTES [GAME 8]
GEORGIA TECH (3-5, 1-4) 22, #9 FLORIDA STATE (6-1, 4-1) 16
OCT. 24, 2015 | ATLANTA, Ga. | Bobby Dodd STADIUM (55,000)

GAME NOTES

  • This is Georgia Tech’s 123rd season of football and the team’s all-time record is now 715-482-43.
  • The all-time series with Florida State now stands at 14-12-1 (favoring FSU), but Tech leads in Atlanta 11-6-1.
  • Tech is now 51-15-1 all-time on Homecoming weekend.

TEAM NOTES

  • The last time Georgia Tech hosted an undefeated top-10 team was Oct. 29, 2011 vs. No. 6 Clemson (8-0). That game was also a Saturday night tilt and also Tech’s Homecoming. The Yellow Jackets won 31-17.
  • Tonight’s attendance of 55,000 marked Georgia Tech’s first sold-out game since that same Clemson game in 2011 — Oct. 29, 2011.
  • In his eight-year career at Georgia Tech, head coach Paul Johnson is now 6-3 in home games versus Top 25 teams and 3-1 versus Top 10 teams.
  • Tech’s streak of 15 consecutive games with a touchdown pass was ended. That streak was tied for the third in the ACC — Florida State (35) and Virginia (19).
  • The interception by Tech’s Jamal Golden was the team’s seventh interception this season — it was also the first time this season that Florida State had committed an offensive turnover.
  • Tech had 3.0 sacks and 4.0 tackles for loss against Florida State after having none last week against Pitt.
  • Georgia Tech handed Florida State its first ACC loss since Oct. 6, 2012, snapping a 28 game conference winning streak.
  • Overall against Top 25 teams at Georgia Tech, Johnson is 10-16 and is 5-7 against Top 10 opponents.
  • This was Georgia Tech’s first win vs. a Top 10 opponent since the Jackets defeated No. 7 Mississippi State on Dec. 31, 2014 in the Capital One Orange Bowl.  It was Georgia Tech’s first home win against a Top 10 team since the Yellow Jackets defeated No. 4 Virginia Tech, 28-23, on Oct. 17, 2009.
  • Heading into tonight’s contest, Georgia Tech has blocked the most kicks in the nation since 2013. Patrick Gamble’s block was Tech’s 14th blocked kick since 2013 and third this season.
  • This was the first time Georgia Tech blocked a field goal since Adam Gotsis blocked Marshall Morgan’s attempt at Georgia on Nov. 29, 2014.

INDIVIDUAL NOTES

  • Justin Thomas’ 60-yard touchdown run was the second-longest rush of his career (65 vs. Clemson last season) and his longest career touchdown run.
  • Defensive end Patrick Gamble blocked Florida State’s 56-yard field goal attempt. It was his first career block.
  • The 53-yard field goal by junior Harrison Butker was a season-long and tied career long (at Georgia, 2014). Butker also hit from 40-yards in the game and is now 13 for 19 in his career from 40 yards and longer.
  • Senior Jamal Golden intercepted his first pass this season and the eighth of career. He’s tied with Virginia Tech’s Kendall Fuller & Duke’s Breon Borders for the ACC’s active career lead.
  • Adam Gotsis recorded his team-leading third sack of the season. He has 12.5 in his career.
  • Senior S Jamal Golden played in his team-leading 50th career game.
  • Senior DT Adam Gotsis made his team-leading 36th consecutive start.
  • Sophomore CB Step Durham made his first career start in place of senior CB D.J. White — it snapped a streak of 31-consecutive starts by White, which was the second-longest on the team.
  • Freshman WR Brad Stewart had a career long 36-yard catch on a fourth down late in the fourth quarter.
  • Sophomore CB Lance Austin returned the blocked punt 78-yards for his first career TD.
