POSTGAME NOTES [GAME 10] GEORGIA TECH YELLOW JACKETS (8-2, 5-2) 56, NC STATE WOLFPACK (5-5, 1-5) 23 NOVEMBER 8, 2014 • RALEIGH, N.C. • CARTER-FINLEY STADIUM (54,653)

MISCELLANEOUS NOTES • Georgia Tech captains: senior LB Quayshawn Nealy, senior RG Shaquille Mason, and sophomore QB Justin Thomas • Saturday was the 29th series meeting and the first since 2011. Georgia Tech leads the all-time series 19-10 and is now 9-6 in Raleigh. The Jackets have now won five straight games at NC State. • Since a 2000 road OT loss at NC State, Georgia Tech is 19-4 in its last 23 road games in North Carolina, and 8-2 under head coach Paul Johnson. • With the win, Paul Johnson has now won 8+ games in 14 of his 18 seasons as head coach, including 2008, 2009, and 2011 at Georgia Tech. • Saturday was Georgia Tech’s third consecutive “Homecoming” game. Georgia Tech defeated Pitt, 56-28, on Oct. 25 on the Panthers’ Homecoming. Last weekend, the Jackets beat Virginia 35-10 for their 66th Homecoming game. • With the win, the Jackets secured their fourth straight season with a winning record in ACC play (5-3 in 2011, 2012, and 2013).

TEAM NOTES • Georgia Tech has played 221 consecutive games without being shut out – the eighth-longest active streak in the nation. The Jackets haven’t been shut out since Oct. 18, 1997 at Florida State. • Since Paul Johnson’s arrival on The Flats in 2008, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are 16-12 in ACC road games and 21-16 in all road games. Tech’s 16 ACC road wins are the third-most among ACC schools during that span. • Georgia Tech has rushed for 200+ yards in 10 straight games – the longest active streak among FBS schools. • Fifteen out of Georgia Tech’s 19 takeaways have resulted in points. Fourteen of those takeaways have resulted in touchdowns, including two of the Yellow Jackets’ touchdowns against NC State. • Georgia Tech has rushed for 300+ yards in 46 games in the Paul Johnson era. Tech is now 37-9 in those games. • Georgia Tech has blocked five kicks this season. • Georgia Tech has now recorded three interception returns for TDs this season and four defensive scores. • Georgia Tech is 34-2 record under Paul Johnson when scoring 35+ in a game. • Saturday was the first game that Georgia Tech scored two defensive TDs since Elon in 2013.

INDIVIDUAL NOTES • Redshirt sophomore QB Justin Thomas became the 6th Tech QB to rush for 1,000 yards and the 44th 1,000-yard rusher in program history. • Senior B-Back Synjyn Days rushes for a career-high 157 yards – his third consecutive 100-yard rushing game. • Freshman DE KeShun Freeman was credited with a blocked kick on NC State’s first PAT of the game. Freeman has now blocked a kick in back-to-back weeks (blocked punt vs. Virginia last week). • DB D.J. White recorded his career-first pick-6 with a 38-yard interception return for a TD in the second quarter. • LB Quayshawn Nealy recorded his fourth career defensive score with a 43-yard fumble return for a TD in the second quarter. • Nealy recorded two takeaways (1 INT, 1 fumble) for the second time in three games. Nealy had two fumble recoveries in a win at Pitt. • Redshirt freshman WR Antonio Messick scored his first career touchdown on a 16-yard touchdown reception on his first career catch.  • Redshirt junior QB Tim Byerly threw his first career touchdown pass to Messick and rushed for a career-high 87 yards. Byerly also rushed for two TDs, the third time in his career that he has rushed for two TDs in one game. Byerly leads the Jackets in rushing TDs with seven.  • Redshirt junior LB Tyler Marcordes career-best in tackles (4) and tackles for loss (2.5). Marcordes also forced the fumble that Nealy picked up and returned for a TD.
