Kallon Earns Tropical Bowl MVP Honors

Jan. 17, 2017

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech defensive tackle Francis Kallon was named Overall Lineman MVP of the 2017 Tropical Bowl, which was played on Sunday at Municipal Stadium in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Kallon led all players with two sacks, matched a game-high with two tackles for loss and tallied three total tackles to help lead his National team to a 28-14 win over the American squad in front of more than 70 professional football scouts, including representatives from 26 NFL teams. In its second year, the Tropical Bowl is a college football all-star game that showcases some of the nation’s top seniors to professional scouts and front-office personnel, not just during the game but for a full week of practice leading up to the contest.

Kallon, a London, England native who did not start playing American football until his junior year at Central Gwinnett H.S., played in 36 games at Georgia Tech and made six starts in 12 contests as a senior in 2016. The 6-5, 294-pounder had two sacks and three tackles for loss while helping lead the Yellow Jackets to a 9-4 record and TaxSlayer Bowl championship during his final collegiate campaign.
