@GeorgiaTechFB Signs Largest Recruiting Class of Paul Johnson Era

Feb. 4, 2015

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech Football signed its largest recruiting class of the Paul Johnson Era on Wednesday with 27 prospects comprising the Yellow Jackets’ 2015 signing class.

Seventeen of the 27 signees hail from the Peach State. Tech’s new group of #FutureJackets are represented by five states – Georgia (17), Florida (5), North Carolina (2), Tennessee (2), and Louisiana (1).

Four members of the class – Will Bryan (Lavonia, Ga.), Kyle Cerge-Henderson (Tampa, Fla.), Harland Howell (Marietta, Ga.), and Quaide Weimerskirch (Milton, Fla.) – as well as Georgia transfer J.J. Green enrolled at Georgia Tech in January and will be able to participate in spring practice, which begins March 23.

“[This year’s recruiting class] went the way we had hoped,” Johnson said. “We’re looking forward to these guys being a part of the Georgia Tech family. I like the balance of this class. We’ve gotten to a point where we have positions with the right numbers.

“I’m happy where we are. We’re in a good spot. We have good potential and good depth at each position. There’s a good positive vibe out there and we want to continue to build on that momentum,” Johnson said.

Twelve members of Georgia Tech’s 2015 class hail from the Jackets’ backyard. KirVonte Benson (Marietta, Ga.), Tyler Cooksey (Suwanee, Ga.), David Curry (Buford, Ga.), Howell, Omahri Jarrett (Douglasville, Ga.), Mikell Lands-Davis (Douglasville, Ga.), Brad and Scott Morgan (Woodstock, Ga.), Anree Saint-Amour (Suwanee, Ga.), Trent Sellers (Tyrone, Ga.), Dorian Walker (Kennesaw, Ga.), and Dante Wigley (Carrollton, Ga.) all played high school football in the Atlanta metropolitan area.

2015 also marked the second straight signing class to feature a set of twin brothers. Brad (offensive line) and Scott (defensive line) Morgan were both first-team Georgia Class 6A All-State performers at Etowah High School in Woodstock.

Four prep quarterbacks – Christian Campbell (Ponchatoula, La.), A.J. Gray (Sandersville, Ga.), TaQuon Marshall (Hamilton, Ga.), and Jaylend Ratliffe (Laurinburg, N.C.) – are a part of Tech’s 2015 class. Gray will play safety, while Marshall is projected to play quarterback and at A-Back.

Georgia Tech also added five defensive linemen – Cerge-Henderson, Brentavious Glanton (Albany, Ga.), Scott Morgan, Saint-Amour, and Sellers. Safety A.J. Gray, the 2014 Gatorade Player of the Year in Georgia, is one of five defensive backs in the class.
