Spring Practice Update #7

April 5, 2013

Date: Friday, April 5

Practice: No. 7 (of 14)

Dress: Shells

Practice notes: Georgia Tech is halfway through spring drills – seven down and seven to go before the spring game… Sun Bowl executive director Bernie Olivas, in town for the Final Four, stopped by practice this afternoon… the Yellow Jackets practiced for 90 minutes in shells today.

Saturday scrimmage open: The Yellow Jackets will open tomorrow morning’s scrimmage in Bobby Dodd Stadium. The practice/scrimmage will begin around 9:30 a.m. Please note that Bobby Dodd Way is closed due to construction. Peters parking garage will be open.

International clinic: The Georgia Tech players and coaches will be offering a free football clinic to all international students from 4-6 p.m. on April 18th. Students will learn some of the basics of football from the Yellow Jackets before being treated to hamburgers and hot dogs. Spring game has title sponsor: The spring game on April 19th (7:30 p.m.) will be called Friday Night on the Flats, Presented by CBC National Bank. Position battle: Tech has accumulated depth and experience at the B-back position, and each brings something to the table:

David Sims, Sr. – Sims’ top five rushing games last season came in the final month of the season, giving hope that he is on pace for outstanding senior year.
Zach Laskey, Jr. – Not many people realize Laskey is Tech’s leading returning rusher (697 yards) and he’s a leader in ball security.
Charles Perkins, Jr. – Perkins started the season opener at Virginia Tech last season before suffering a season-ending injury.
Broderick Snoddy, So. – Snoddy shattered the school record in the 60-meters earlier this year and he is hopeful that translates to “football speed” this fall.
Matt Connors, Jr. – The walk-on saw much more than mop-up duty last year and he rushed for two touchdowns.
