Tech's Uzzi Named To Preseason All-ACC Team

July 25, 2012

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Georgia Tech senior guard Omoregie Uzzi, named earlier to the preseason watch list for the Outland Trophy, was named to the 2012 Atlantic Coast Conference Preseason Team Wednesday.

Uzzi, a Lithonia (Ga.) native, was a first team All-ACC selection last season and also earned second team All-America honors from SI.com and third team honors from Rivals. Uzzi helped Georgia Tech lead the ACC in rushing offense, total offense, scoring offense, fewest sacks allowed and third-down conversion percentage in 2011.

Uzzi was the only Yellow Jacket named to the 25-man preseason All-ACC team, but five Tech players received votes for the team. Senior Orwin Smith was the third-leading vote-getter among running backs behind North Carolina's Giovani Bernard and Clemson's Andre Ellington. Junior Jeremiah Attaochu was the fourth-leading vote-getter among linebackers and junior Isaiah Johnson was fourth among safeties.

Tech junior center Jay Finch and junior kicker Justin Moore also received votes.

The only unanimous selection by the media attending the ACC Kickoff earlier this week was Clemson wide receiver Sammy Watkins, who received all 68 votes.
