Georgia Tech Heads To Kansas Saturday For ACC-Big 12 Match-Up
Georgia Tech, coming off a season-opening 41-10 win over South Carolina State, travels to Kansas Saturday for its first game against a Big 12 Conference opponent since 1993.
The Yellow Jackets, ranked 16th in the Associated Press poll and 17th in the USA Today Coaches poll, rushed for 372 yards and six touchdowns last Saturday to cruise to a victory over the visiting Bulldogs.
Senior quarterback Joshua Nesbitt rushed for a career-high tying three touchdowns and 130 yards and Tech's 3-4 defense allowed just one TD in the win.
Kansas, 0-1, is coming off a 6-3 upset loss to visiting North Dakota State, spoiling the debut of new coach Turner Gill.
Kansas committed three turnovers, including a fumble with less than four minutes to play. KU committed two fumbles and had a pass intercepted in the end zone, as it suffered a season-opening loss for the first time since 2003.
The Jayhawk defense held North Dakota State to just 168 total yards and 10 first downs, but KU was penalized eight times for 70 yards, several of which extended NDSU drives. The KU offense out-gained NDSU 293-168, but was stalled by its' three turnovers.
Saturday's game is the first of consecutive road games for Georgia Tech, which begins ACC play Sept. 18 at North Carolina.
Georgia Tech leads the all-time series, 1-0, beating the Jayhawks in the 1948 Orange Bowl. The Yellow Jackets will play on the road against a Big 12 team for the first time since 1992.
