Andrew Gardner Will Have Season-Ending Shoulder Surgery On Thursday

Nov. 4, 2008

ATLANTA - Georgia Tech head coach Paul Johnson said at his press conference today that senior offensive tackle Andrew Gardner has elected to have surgery on his left shoulder and will miss the remainder of the season. Gardner, a first team All-ACC selection in 2007, has the nation's longest current streak of consecutive starts with 48 games (every game of his career). Gardner has played with a torn labrum this season and the condition worsened Oct. 25 vs. Virginia.

"After talking with his family, they felt this was the right thing to do," Johnson said. "We are very supportive of him and understand his decision completely. It's about a five-month rehab period and I wish him the best in his rehab and desire to play football in the future."
