Charlotte Bound: FB Wins ACC Coastal

Nov. 20, 2014

THE FLATS – No. 18 Georgia Tech will face No. 3 Florida State in the 2014 Dr Pepper ACC Championship Game on Dec. 6 after clinching the ACC Coastal Division crown. Georgia Tech (9-2, 6-2) clinched its fourth ACC Coastal Division title following Duke’s 45-20 loss Thursday night to North Carolina.

It’ll be Tech’s fourth ACC Championship Game appearance and third in the last six years. The Yellow Jackets are 1-2 in their previous ACCCG appearances (2009 win later vacated). This is the fourth time in seven seasons that Tech has finished first or tied for first in the division under head coach Paul Johnson.

“Congratulations to our team and coaching staff on winning the Coastal Division title and earning a trip to the ACC Championship game,” Georgia Tech AD Mike Bobinski said. “We’re excited by the opportunity to compete for a conference championship and add another accomplishment to what has been a terrific season.”

“I am proud to see the hard work our team has put in all year pay off with the ACC Coastal Division title,” head coach Paul Johnson said. “We have lots of work to do over these next two weeks!”

The 2014 title game will be a rematch of the 2012 title bout against the defending national champion Florida State Seminoles – a 21-15 FSU win.
