THE FLATS – The 109th renewal of the nation’s 19th-most played rivalry kicks off Saturday when the 15th-ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets visit the eighth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs in Athens. Kickoff is set for noon ET on the SEC Network. This weekend marks the 16th time that at least one of the teams is ranked in the last 18 series meetings.

SERIES HISTORY
Georgia is Georgia Tech’s most played rivalry. Saturday marks the 109th series meeting, making it the 19th-most played rivalry among FBS schools and the third-most played rivalry featuring an ACC school. Georgia holds a 64-39-5 all-time series advantage.

  • The two schools first met in 1893 – a 28-6 Tech win in Athens.
  • At least one team has been ranked in 16 of the last 18 series meetings
  • Georgia Tech has been ranked 10 times in the last 18 series meetings vs. Georgia
  • The two schools have met every year since 1925; Saturday will be the 80th consecutive year the two teams have played on the gridiron.

WHEN OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS
Georgia Tech’s 116 points off turnovers are the fourth-most in FBS this season. The Yellow Jackets are one of only five teams to score 110+ points off turnovers in 2014. 41 of Georgia Tech’s 116 points off turnovers have come via a defensive touchdown. Georgia Tech has converted 18 of its 24 takeaways into points (16 touchdowns, 2 field goals).

TAKEAWAY NEALY
Quayshawn Nealy’s eight career interceptions are tied for the most among active non-defensive backs in the nation. The senior also has four career defensive touchdowns, including two this season.

ON THE DEFENSIVE
Georgia Tech leads the FBS with 10 different players having recorded an interception this year.

RUNNING CLOCK
Georgia Tech is second in the ACC and ranks 6th among all FBS in average time of possession (33:49). The Jackets have also had the ball for more than 10 minutes in 10 of 44 quarters this season. Tech has held the ball 10+ minutes in five of the last nine quarters.

3RD DOWN CONVERSIONS
Georgia Tech continues to lead FBS in 3rd down conversions with a clip of 58.3 percent (77 of 132). The Jackets also lead the ACC in 4th down conversion rate.

TOUCHDOWN TIMMY
Redshirt junior QB Tim Byerly leads the Yellow Jackets with seven rushing TDs on only 45 rushing attempts in 2014. Byerly is averaging a touchdown on every 6.4 rushing attempts.

DEFENSIVE OPPORTUNITY
Georgia Tech is tied for second nationally with six defensive TDs this season – tops among ACC schools. Tech leads FBS with five interception returns for TD. Five different Yellow Jackets have scored a defensive TD – Quayshawn Nealy (2), P.J. Davis, D.J. White, Jamal Golden, and Chris Milton.

#GT300
Georgia Tech has rushed for 300 or more yards in 45 of 90 games and 400 or more yards 14 times in the Paul Johnson era. The Yellow Jackets are 36-9 when rushing for 300+ yards, including an 11-2 mark in the last 13 games. Johnson is 71-18 at the FBS level when his teams rush for 300+ yards. Georgia Tech has now rushed for 200 or more yards in 11 consecutive games – the longest active streak among FBS schools.

SECOND HALF ADJUSTMENTS
Georgia Tech has scored a TD on its opening drive of the second half in eight of 11 games this season, including the last five. Each of the last five drives to open the second half has lasted 75 yards – at North Carolina, at Pitt, vs. Virginia, at NC State, and vs. Clemson.

POCKET PROTECTION
Georgia Tech has allowed only 10 sacks in 11 games, the sixth-fewest in FBS and the fewest in the ACC. Only Oklahoma (6), New Mexico State (8), Wisconsin (8), Michigan (9), and Northern Illinois (9) have allowed fewer.
